A18 16K RWG map

I started generation of a 16K at around 11:20 , it is now 13:39 and still Generating Country Raods...

omg lol. At least it hasn't crashed. How much memory does your box have, how much is the process using?

I'm running a dedicated Linux server, BTW, and so my results might be a bit different than on Windows. Tailing the log, and it is still sitting on Generating Detail Data. After about 15 minutes the cpu usage jumped to 50%, memory sitting at 12GB.

The box I'm generating on has 16GB, using about 11GB to generate. While generating Socket Data it was cranking on the 4790K 100% seems like it was the most intense part. Now sitting at ~15% Generating Wilderness POIs.

I also have a box with 32GB and a 9900K available to test generation on, but in A17 RWG benchmarking it didn't make too huge of a difference and I'm not too keen on tying up my pain PC for several hours generating.

Ok, forgive me as I haven't played since A16 and may be missing something, but how? It won't even give me the option to select 16k as the ">" is grayed out.

I am a little hopeful a 16k world would go better then the 8k ones as those have literally all been a strip of Snow > Forest > Desert > Wasteland with a triangle-ish bit of burn forest on one side.

16K worlds are a blast. 8K is just too small for me - I keep hitting the radiation zone when I'm out exploring. A15 and maybe A16, and prior, let us generate 20K worlds, where it was 10K from the center to the radiation zone. A17 had this hard coded to a max of 16K. Also, 16K worlds are memory pigs, and the client will use a *lot of memory to run them. A lot of low end computers with limited memory can't play a 16k world.

Like dsZombiex said, we are using the dedicated server to do this. There is an old thread floating around here somewhere that tells how to do it from the game itself, but it's been long time since I saw it. I vaguely recall there is a config file you have to edit, as normally the ability to generate 16K maps from within the game is disabled.

Oof, sorry man. Experimental gonna experimental I guess. Let me know if you try again and succeed. I'm interested how long it takes you to gen.

Are you consistently getting seeds without rows of ditches? Every seed I have done thus far is unplayable because of it. uninstalled. DL'd the entire package again. Fresh install. Cleaned. I am at a lose.

There are RWG issues with Radeon cards supposedly... I think if you have one you're gonna have to use the pregen random worlds that shipped with A18 until there's a fix...

I have an nVidia RTX2060. I just launched another run, I'll check in later with results. I'm very curious if they fixed the memory consumption issues with large maps.

Honestly, I'm doing this just to see if I can. There is no way I'm going to run an RWG world on my server probably until A18.2+. I have every expectation of it being as buggy as the initial bug reports say it is.

I'm hoping the author of NitroGen steps up and does an A18 version of Nitrogen. Or maybe TIN will come out with something amazing for A18 :D :D.

How are you keeping tabs on the progress of the world generation? I'm using RAT to start up my dedicated server and I don't see the world generation progress when I updated the serverconfig.xml to create a new 16k map. I'm fairly certain it's working on it as my CPU and RAM is definitely churning but all the RAT console window tells me is, "World not loaded".

I know I have RAT setup properly as I was able to start the PREGEN01 world just fine. I also testing this with RAT by generating a 2k random map and I got the "World not loaded" message for about five minutes before the normal "world start" messages started showing up and the server came online.

I just ran a NitroGen map. It works technically. Fortunately the file formats did not change.

There are just some adjustments (prefablist) to be made.

I was tempted to run a Nitrogen map, but I assumed due to the Splat changes and such that it would not work at all. How "useable" was/is the Nitrogen map? I'll grind out a 16K map if it will pull all the POI's in properly. The new endless Biomes don't thrill me much and I'd rather have more variety in regard to biome placement instead of N-Snow, M - Forest, S - Desert.

Works fine actually.

Biomes show up correctly.

I have a temporary new prefablist for A18, thats needs some debugging. But includes the new POIs.

The current version will throw some error message when POIs cannot be found (a few where renamed).

And the dimensions of several POIs have changed. So they might not be placed correctly.

Making an update to A18 should not take that long.

Here's my log.

https://pastebin.com/nCQHs3ac

Map file each new user needs to download is 3GB.

On a good connection (low ping) it takes about 6 minutes.

On a bad connection, it takes about 15-20 minutes, and at about 15 minutes EAC will kick you for "excessive packet loss" and you'll be temp banned from the server for 15 minutes.

Will be testing gameplay a bit more on it later, and am mapping the thing tonight.

Edit: Almost forgot. When playing on this map, my game client was using 18GB ram.

EDIT EDIT: all 24 cores were mostly at 100% load for the generation. I expect that's partially because I don't have a GPU on the server to share the workload.

If you can get NitroGen working with A18 with all the POIs and stuff, we will all worship you..... :rapture:

What he said. I love the new terrain look, but I miss the packed worlds with biome variety of Nitrogen. I wish I knew coding well enough to fix it for A18, but my specialty is network/pc design.

I put up a test version fo A18

I tried the A18 experimental Nitrogen using a custom 12k map. It would get to the point where it would completely download the map for my user, but choke when trying to enter the world. I also tried an 8K but got the same results. It generated both worlds just fine though.

Do you see any error message in the console (F1) when starting the map?

A18 seem to also trigger a problem when having the folder where you placed the map still open. (access violation)

Another thing could be the EAC Client acting up.

Or the main.ttw file (you could generate one with RWG and replace it, it mainly determines a Unique ID)

I was just generating an 8K map, and it worked fine in local singleplayer.

I generated a 16K world with Nitrogen. Took about 33 minutes. Moved it to my server, server started right up. I copied the files to my client so I would not have to download them, so I can't comment on the download process. However, once I did that, I was able to join the server and play on the map just fine. Performance was good.

The client used about 20GB ram. If your computer has 16GB or less, it will not be able to load a 16K world.

I posted a bug about not being able to generate 16K maps, and the response was that 16K maps are not supported. Meaning the client/server can't generate them, but will run them if you can find some other way to generate them. Enter <drum rollllll> NitroGen :D :D

So far so good. Will it add all POIs and stuff to the map it generates?
