Ridiculous level up exploit and a lazy mining tip for beginers

To level up ridiculously fast get the auger as soon as possible and attack those large rocks, not the boulders with the nitrate and coal but the large ones, you can level up twice on 2 of the of these large rocks in about 10 minutes early in the game.

I like to use HE Rockets in a mine to clear out the rocks and expose the good stuff when I am lazy and it works rather well. Also Dynamite and Pipe Bombs are useless in a mine so unlike the real world only the HE Rockets do the massive block damage.

This is just for newbies I am sure every experienced player already knows this.

No... You got to account for 'everything' especially ammo! EXPLOSIVE CROSSBOW BOLTS is how you do it!!! Bear in mind that in the video my character is level 74 at the beginning of Horde Night 14... This is Heavily modded setup, Compo Pack, Firearms 1(or 1.2); stack sizes increased. The base setup is mostly plain barbed wire with the wood spikes. The multiple layers of barbed wire slow them down as you can see. Part of this technique is to know that you need to get the 'heavy hitters' first. That means the big hp mobs such as Cops, the Big lady, the others and Spiders since they can jump and get to you! I didn't know it at the time but I surpassed my goal of running 4 complete horde night hordes and made it to 5 complete ones!

Starting stats:

Level 74 with 604 kills.

Ending Stats:

Level 86 with 1162 kills! So thats 12 levels and 558 kills...

Ummm....I'm pretty sure there's a half dozen ways I've found to level up "fast".

Learnin' Elixer on a horde night, Mining, Doing lots of quests, Selling picnic tables, barbed wire fences to slow down zombies instead of killing them, using Molotov cocktails on a group to ensure you get the XP on a group, doing group raids to get XP from the entire team, etc.

There are plenty of ways to level up fast. Which one is best? Who cares...Play it your way.

I love that AK and those explosive crossbow bolts are what I used in the same way as you starting out. It also looks like we fight the same way, we should join forces and rid the world of these base destroying undead abominations. What did you use to capture the video? I used my HDML Cloner Pro and got all kinds of artifacts in the video here:https://youtu.be/LsP7UP48Eak I had bought a copy of fraps decades ago and my old serial will not work so I am not paying $50.00 or whatever for fraps again if they will not honor my old purchase.

Selling picnic tables? What are they worth? I cannot say I ever thought to sell picnic tables.

I typically don't like leveling up "fast" as you won't have to resources to deal with the higher tier threats that constantly spawn.

Well if you want a motorcycle or 4x4 like me you will do whatever you can, the bicycle is pretty lame, for me anyway.

Well it's mot much but day 97, level 201, 4742 kills. I only have UI mods including backpack and storage 120 , 5 crafting spots and 3 forge slots. Perception and all perks are maxed Intellect and all but the charisma perks are maxed.

I think at level 160 and beyond I level up very slow with kills and even bloodmoon 91 I only got 1 level up, even with 2 learning elixirs. When I mine with the auger on stone and go crazy making tunnels and clearing areas to find resources I go up 2 levels in 1/2 hour real time.

I forgot to mention to newbies, which is what this was about, that gas is an issue until you find an an oil shale mine so going crazy with the auger is only helpful when you have gas to spare.

Don't know how viable this idea is. I have played over 400 hours in SP and NEVER found an auger.

My first play through in SP in alpha 16 I also did not find one the second play through I found one early. good or bad you can max your Intellect and get perk 5 engineering and craft one in alpha 17. It takes a while but when you have it you will realized the power it has especially with locked safes, boulder breaking and mining any resource. When you max the trader selling perk and at max intellect you craft everything at 6 and they sell for 4,800, so you can make 5 and in standard navezgane with 5 traders sell one to each trader you will get 24,000. They will buy up to 3 at a time but sometime they only want 2 so if you make 10 you double the money you get from the traders.

I forgot to start a new large random map and I am pretty pissed at myself for it. I had a large random map in alpha 16 and I found something like 10 traders.

What level is you advanced engineering? I forgot you have to be level 100 to unlock advanced engineering level 5 and have max Intellect. Although I did find a auger at a trader in the secret stash at about level 50 but it was a level 2 or something quality and had to repair it a lot.

*beginners

Yeah i forgot the rarity of them. Still I level up at level 180 faster on it than anything other than selling 10 augers, 10 nail guns, 10 chainsaws and 4 sets of steel armor and an assortment of steel axes sledgehammers and so on, but then I run out of mechanical parts and duct tape really fast.

Oh wow....we got a big baller up in here...

Now I remember why I questioned even posting this.

Actually thanks to Cadamier i realized had zombie speed on bloodmoon set to walk for some reason and I do not even remember changing that. So thank you Cadamier for your video it always bugged me why the green bastards were walking around during bloodmoon and I thought it was just a performance thing the FP's put in there to boost performance when massive loads of zombies spawn.

Several thing weird about this post. If you’re a beginner is it more unlikely you would be reading this. Second while leveling fast will increase the game stage, if you spec into the right stuff and have an adequate horde base it won’t matter that much in A17. You can easily find materials to build guns and ammo, traps and melee weapons too. Spec into intellect and strength and it’s no problem.

I went for Intellect first and maxed it as soon possible, then I went to Perception to max that giving Health, Agility and Strength 8 with a few perks such as Living Off The Land and Sexual Tyrannosauruses (in real life this would be my weakness) as well as a few others.

I am a CRPG lover so I tend to play in this type of way. I remember playing Wizardry and Might and Magic and fighting the same monsters over and over to Buff Up or Grinding as they call it now to get that level 5 spell. I don't call myself bobrpggamer just because it sounds cool or something.

I can take all the zombies throw at me now so I do not worry about how the game balances my gameplay, I wanted that Auger more than the 4X4 or Gyrocopter and they don't call me Bob The Builder for nothing either - just kidding - I like to upgrade my base and having more perks helps me do just that.

Like Ti2xGr said, we all play the game in different ways, some are FPS oriented, some are RPG oriented and some nuts play on a hard level with permadeath. To be honest in all of my RPG experience from Wasteland, Might and Magic 1 and Ultima 3 I can not stand Rogue-like RPGs they are the least interesting and the most frustrating type of RPGs I can think of, I also really do not like JRPGs either, it seems the Japanese like to make everything cute and I would rather fight a demon than a cute little whatever they put in there to fight. It is just my preference to spend a day or so just trying to level up so I can get a certain perk or in Might and Magic that Eradication Spell was worth 5 hours of fighting the same monsters over and over.

Yup.

Resources (Stations, ammo, healing), good gear and in A18, the books/Manuals will make ALL the difference so it seems.

Getting the above, in abundance, is what my focus will be. Not what level I am.

Yes, these are things that go without question. There are so many facets to this game that nothing really stands out as the most important but you cannot get anywhere without ammo, healing and food, how you acquire them is your personal preference.

If your Intellect is 5 you can craft good tools and weapons but when you have Intellect 10 you craft greater tools and weapons and you can craft the AK and Rocket Launcher with the right perks as well.

I guess in Alpha 17 I have focused MORE on leveling thanks to the perks allowing crafting without the books or however I remember Alpha 16. I would rather find a book on crafting a certain tool or weapon but it is down to perks now.

Why would you mine the large boulders? Pretty sure they give you the same resources and xp as simply mining stone underground.

Because they are massive and I just collect rock and some iron which is what I needed at the time and they take quite a while to remove but you are right about mining, I just started out on these when I needed rock for concrete and I noticed the XP boost and decided to just go after these to save time between bloodmoons. Also I noticed that when mining for oil shale I got a surprise visit from the witch and a boatload of her friends that just dug straight down to me and I got killed, so this kind of ruined my mining expectations for a while until later in the game. usually I would go after the small boulders to get the other resources but I would be running all over looking for them and wasting time trying to find them when I just needed rock for my forge.
