gcomerfo
Ok, not sure if anyone ever suggested it, but if you did good. Here is my version and why I want one in the game. First - Wood Frames are tooooo durable!!! Gosh, if you want to change your base wall layout, the painful agony of endlessly pounding with an axe is just tedious and horrible!! Yes, frames are too strong!! Ok, maybe that is another topic about balancing them, BUT... Introduce the crowbar... Perhaps that pesky wood frame takes over a dozen wacks with an axe, but, if you have a crowbar, then you could pry it apart at the joints in only 2 clicks instead of 57 (or however many it takes now). Also, besides deconstructing annoyingly durable wood frames (and in case the devs rebalance those), then I think we could still use it for some other fun mechanics. Examples: - crowbar can pry apart wood frames fast (perhaps all frame types, post build) - more so than any other tool - a crowbar will allow you to loot extra hubcaps from cars for scrap metal (not just ones from the trunk) - only crowbar will get you the extras - let's make air conditioners, not openable, unless you have a crowbar - crowbar can be a weapon also - maybe equal to the hardened metal club or even better (?) - crowbar can open locked items perhaps? - hmmmm... - crowbar be a tool to only loot certain items/doors/locked cars - perhaps even ammo boxes - crowbar can be used to loot certain blocks for building - safes, for example - instead of crafting them from scratch, you could use a crowbar to pull them out without destroying them ,and bring them back to your base - more realistic than the old pickaxe I mainly wanted it for annoying wood frame removal, but realize it has a lot of potential for other new game mechanics. What ideas do you have for a crowbar tool?? Post them, please. If you already had a similar idea, please post your link here to reinvigorate the idea. Finally - crowbar recipe: 4 iron ingots - simple, but costly
McOrigin
+1 for any idea that makes demolition of placed blocks easier without lowering block durability.

Euzio
+1 to having a crowbar to prying apart blocks faster, or wood frames without destroying them. Also to it being a weapon since well, crowbars have been used as weapons for ages XD. But i don't think they should have it pry apart locked chests, gunsafes and stuff. There is a reason why stuff remains locked. And its already hard enough to find POIs with gunsafes, desksafes and such, in addition to acquiring the items needed to craft and forge for a crowbar. So I would skip out on that idea. If you intend to be able to like say use it to pry open other player's chests for say in servers where PVP and base looting is allowed. Why not just have it such that if you hit the locked chest enough times with a fireaxe, the lock on it breaks and you can then loot it. Or you just simply destroy the chest and everything inside falls out.
TheFuzz
Perhaps if a crowbar can't be added, simply make the "claim block" also allow quicker destruction of your own property. It already is built to make it harder to others, I'm sure it's not that different to make it easier for the owner.
Ben2150
You've got my support :encouragement: My Half-Life days have got me itching to get my hands on a crowbar :D
With a crowbar all we need is a head crab and I will feel right at home. :-) I would enjoy having an easy downgrade tool, since the current method is a royal pain. I would even be fine simply losing the materials used to upgrade, that or getting scraps back. Anyways, I like all of the OPs ideas.
EnableScope
Can I use the crowbar to jam the antimasspectrometer?

LimeyRon
 I think we're getting off topic a little :p Now, which way to Ravenholm?
monkeystew
downgrade path would be great as long as it only worked on block you have placed!
Grotto19
I like it. I could also see it being used to dismantle the typical household appliances (refrigerator, stove, and sinks) faster than a pickaxe or fire axe.
LeastConcern
+1 to all OP ideas - and also the boarded planks that seem to block just about every door and window in every POI now (as was mentioned by QicCa)
LimeyRon
Sweet, we have a moderator on board with the idea :) Might actually get implemented now
Vhalgrin
i like the opening containters idea but maby instead of having to use it on certain containers it makes opening things that arnt like trash just open faster i +1 the idea
Yojimbo
+1 Freeman Style! In a similar vein, I'd like to see tools that assist with other in-game activities (either directly or passively), like opening safes might take 1/4th as long with a stethoscope equipped, or looting game might take 1/4th as long with a hunting knife equipped. mosh_pete
+1 like it a lot and everything handy suggested along with it, but especially because i don t feel complete in a zombie apokalypse without a crowbar on my belt
gcomerfo
Actually, madmole just showcased a new upgrading tool, the claw hammer in his blog. I was wondering if that could possibly have a downgrade option as well? I'm not saying it should replace the idea of a crowbar completely, I'd still want to swing zombies with it :emmersed:
Yes that will be cool if it has a downgrade ability. I think whether they add a crobar, or just keep the claw hammer to fit that role, that some containers should only be openable with a prying tool. Like how on earth can we just open up safes, ACs, or munitions cases without a tool? Those should not openable by hand, or even able to be pounded open, right? That would give incentive to get a prying tool and those containers could then have better loot that you could not get early in the game.
Peter34
What ideas do you have for a crowbar tool?? Post them, please.
Rip i-bars out of the ground and transfer them to inventory. Just 1 click thus faster than the 5 clicks from a Pickaxe.
