Onarr
I'm curious. How can you simulate mental health / illness ? You would have sanity meter, that would represent your current psychological state. Negative events would decrease your sanity, positive ones would increase it: -being wet -overheating/freezing -beeing outside at night -fighting zombies -exploring wasteland and burned forest -being hungry -being thirsty -negative status effects - broken limb, infection, pneumonia etc. ... +being in forest biome during daylight +listening to music +taking a shower +eating cooked meal +drinking coffe/tea +resting in bed +siting +popping specialized drugs ... Low sanity would increase occurance of negative events that can happen to player, ranging from small to large. Here are some examples: Small events: Mostly visual in nature, and dont affect gameplay much. Paranoia: gasp, increased heartbeat, slight stamina drain, hears whispers Wooden hands - while using tool, there is chance you inflict only 10% of block damage and when placing block, there is chance it will immediately collapse Melancholyscreen slowly tints darker for few minutes Medium events: events start to influence gameplay in negative manner. Can be potentialy dangerous. Shaky hands - when aiming with ranged weapon, your aim shakes for few second, when engaged in combat Stress eating - player randomly consumes food from inventory (cannot be triggered in combat) Tantrum - player starts swinging uncontrolably around, yelling profanities at nearby rock, untill he runs out of stamina. Can be triggered by various events. Is sure to attract attention of nearby zombies Large events: dire events, that endanger players life Panic attack - player has a chance to be stuned for few seconds when encountering zombie in close proximity. Weak grasp - player has a chance to drop weapon when being hit Hopelessness - when sanity drops to zero, there is chance, that player will try to kill himself This will force player to play more carefuly. His avatars wellbeing has serious gameplay consequences, so he needs to keep him at a good state of mind. Idea is, that you start at forest biome, which would contain only PoIs up to lvl 3. It is quite easy to maintain high sanity. In order to get better loot however, you need to venture to harsher biomes and visit harder PoIs, that drain your sanity more. In order to cope with higher sanity loss, you need to equip your base with various Quality of life improvements, that help you regain sanity. Guppycur
Re sanity: Played it in starvation mod. Neat concept and all, mostly fleshed out imo, but it just wasn't fun. Could it have been? I dunno. I don't think so.
Darkstardragon
The random noises you made when losing your sanity in starvation were hilarious, not to mention the accidental firing of or swinging a weapon lol
bdubyah
To me, something like sanity and stuff mentioned above would need to be in more of a thriller type game where they are the main aspect, and with a set character. Trying to make it on the same level as food and water and resources, as mentioned, would just be silly and/or annoying.
TheProphet
Will I be able to dig down and build an underground bunker like I used to do with my friends back in alpha 14? ecv
Haha, 50% opacity zombie sprinting at you and vanishing at point blank... That would would be very effective. I would develop a paranoia of my own from playing that kind of paranoid character... That is a fantastic idea. I absolutely love it. Eat too many painkillers, get dehydrated, run around in the dark for a prolonged time. Start seeing things. On that note: I often wondered if the bushes and small trees were designed to look like zombies from far away. I often mistake those for a second and get into alert mode if that was planned, it's very well done

The change is that zombies now know how to get to you whether you're underground or not. Underground living is not at a disadvantage compared to above ground living, but it's on even footing now. If you have not played since A14..dude, you're missing a LOT of new content. i may have played recent versions but i dont remember since i barely played, i remember the bike was already there anyway, my point is: can you actually survive underground and expanding your bunker, or do zombies make massive holes down your bunker making it useless? we used to survive in PVP making bunkers and it was COMFY AS ♥♥♥♥. you would have to defend everytime you went out for resources so it was not safe, and you wer at the constant risk of getting raided by players, however, it was still an useful way to live because zombies wouldn't dig in a second a massive ass hole in your bunker bunkers are ♥♥♥♥ing awesome, its the best thing of a voxel game that you cannot do normally, so why force players to live on dumb ass block houses ruining the point of being able to make holes underground which is where anyone with a brain would hide from bandits (enemy players) and zombies in a mad max scenario me and my friend are engineers and we can BUILD BUNKERS IRL, that is what we would do in a real life scenario, that is what we build in the game, amazing bunkers, very big, we keep expanding, we make empires underground, and when you find other people's underground constructions its a very nice feeling of exploration, more so than finding bases above ground please dont ruin the god damn thing

If you put forges in the bunker you must assure that no screamers can dig down (spikes, turrets, etc)

So, why don't you just play it first, instead of sweating about something you don't know about, or haven't experienced yet. Here is a tip: TURN OFF THE BLODDMOON HORDE and you don't need to worry about it at all, unless you are making a crap-ton of noise while you are down there. Tip2: Dig deep enough and you still don't have to worry about it, just like before.

ZombieSurvivor
"so why force players to live on dumb ass block houses ruining the point of being able to make holes underground which is where anyone with a brain would hide from bandits (enemy players) and zombies in a mad max scenario Half a brain? The real question is why in the world would you be hiding from zombies and other players? A skilled player/group can make a base above ground in the wide open and not fear other players or zombies. Its kind of insulting saying players that don't hide like cowards (no offense) has half a brain. In all the years I've been playing this I never built a base underground or hidden, and I've only been successfully raided once and I have yet to be killed by another player in almost 2,000 hours of game time, ever! (not bragging just stating facts) Its all about skill and learning the game. This isn't "Hide n Seek Zombie Simulator" after all. (P.S. @Discord I'm still waiting on that bullet to my head you promised me 2 years ago after you came close to killing me, you still hold the record for coming closest to offing me in game. My maze of planted trees will always protect me from your sniping skills lol )

ZombieSurvivor
You are right , I meant it in a way, just not to have a perk or something to give us new life as in Mario. Odetta
The Duke needs to stay alive. I wanna see a mode where the best player in PVP become the Duke. They had a game like this. It had so much potential too until the devs screwed and proceeded to abandon the game. Shineblossom
Extra lifes ? This is not Super Mario. Dead is Dead brings lot of opportunities for awesome gameplay, a huge amount of variables are possible. Bringing too many options to this mode will weak it a lot. A rules for certain failures though, sounds good. The main idea of this mode is to be in constant alert of the environment and be sure that your abilities will bring you further. Not to be afraid of doing and avoiding stuff, just because you just had a minibike and wand to play safe. So giving people options so they customize their gameplay will ruin your fun while you have no obligation to play with same customisation others have. I see. I see. Maybe it ruins it because the devs spent time customizing that option instead of something that i care about. Therefore Id lose out.
