What is your favorite POI for both raiding or building a base?

My new favorite is the waterworks, I kept hearing zeds and it took me a bit to figure it out, but the poi just kept going and going, and I found stuff hidden all over the place, it was fun.

The building called MAIL is a great one for a base. I like to try all the poi's for bases. The MAIL building is good as it has a double layer concrete floor, easily upgraded brick walls, some concrete in the ceiling in places, and is completely surrounded on all sides with asphalt.

What are your favorites and why?

Also if you know of ones that are unstable, might be fun to discuss those, too. The old police station used to be very unstable. Worst one I ever saw was the old, large book store. ha

I used to always search for the premade Underground Bunkers (the Well and the Shed access) as they had plenty of storage and room to place all my stations and easily converted into Tower Defense bases and chopping through the floor to build a Mine system. The key was to be topside during BM nights to prevent diggers.

I have used the Mail as a successful base (Success = Day 100+ ) and currently have a rooftop base over a Hairdresser. It is a two story cement and cobblestone building with no second floor so the Zeds can't smash through the floor to get me with its high ceilings (it also had a Popin Pills, a Workin Stiffs and a Pass'n Gaz all on the same block. I am currently on day 56 and still have had no close calls.

Rooftop of the Salon was always my fav starting point if I can't find a ranger station.

Ranger is easier in that it's 10x10 and bottom is all flagstone blocks except for the door and 3 windows.

(so get 8 flagstone blocks done to fill'em)

Easily upgradable to cobblestone in the first week, then cement. Second floor is already there, take the stairs out, make a ramp/jump

then drawbridge later.

Also gives a nice place to mine relatively safely.

(easy place to clear and defend. gunsafe too. If you're REAL lucky, the lootbox on the first floor may give you a working cement mixer! Got that once.) :)

Junkyard for a base with a partially destroyed building somewhere near it for my 7 day. I can filling part of the missing floor with flagstone, and set up 2 ramps alternate running the Z's through a line up of spikes and barbed wire.

When one ramp up is nearing the end of it's usefulness we pull the last 3 on the approach (always wooden frames), and put the frames down for the other ramp. Then we can rest limited traps while we pull them up the 2nd ramp.

Raiding, I like the cut off highway. It's easy to clear, then set up a small camp. If I can't find one of those I'll set up on the top of the skater park or one of the burger joints.

That is my new favorite. I finally ran into that the other day.

For a base, I normally go for a simple wooden two story house.

It's easy to take over on day one, and providing you make yourself a separate horde night structure it doesn't need to be made of anything stronger than wood (although you can gradually replace the wood with concrete in your spare time if you prefer).

I think a really good one from day one is the destroyed overpass..

it's up off the ground, already supported by reinforced concrete, which is great for early game,

and with just a little work can be shored up enough to make a decent combo horde-night / home base.

of course.. it comes with a downside (not that bad), that ya mostly find them in wasteland biomes..

sometimes can find one right on the edge of wasteland next to forest..

I even built one of my own at a convergence of snow/desert/forest on a nice big asphalt intersection.

Ranger station 100% Ever since a17, it's my go-to.

Fill in the bottom to cover the entire porch, expand the top so it fills the top except for a 2-wide balcony, put a bar overhang and voila. You will never need anything else, it stands up to Horde nights and you can expand vertically an infinite amount. We build a basement directly below it for crafting, make the old second floor the cooking/weapon storage area, put living quarters on a new second floor and a farm on a new roof. We've never had it breeched.

Eventually we usually cement over the yard and at a catwalk/broken outer wall with spike pits and turrets about 8 blocks out from the outer wall, and it handles every horde we get with ease.

I know this might seem like I am WAY late to the party, but I JUST realized the blue tarp covered blocks, stacks of boxes, and bags of concrete were mineable! Been playing since A6 so this just seemed like a new environmental block for aethetics sake. I had no idea you could get raw materials this way.

Being able to mine concrete day one is a game changer. Found a Farm with over 100 concrete inside and tons of cobble stone. One room is concrete cinder blocks on 3 walls. Just upgrade the 4th wall with what you can get inside the farms big barn and you now have a 4 walled concrete shelter day 1!c9KhEhn.png

Find a "Grace" POI and mine nearly 1k ready concrete

One of the first tools I make is a stone shovel for concrete bags :)

That's really interesting. I've thought of that, too, because of the two reinforced concrete pillars, might be fun to try and see how long I can last up there haha

You should see the super corn/grace Poi, you go in there and come out with 1000+ concrete mix and 2k+cobblestones from all the pallets in there.

As for me i like the brown brick church poi, build base near the cieling by the beams going across, study enough that even if all the support pillars going from floor to cieling get knocked out it won't collapse.

In Navezgane, yes, the huge cornfarm house/barn has a boatload of cobblestone/cementmix, and the run to Bob's Boars isnt' that far.

There is also the construction house in town that has some as well.

A couple of the houses in town also have a ton, but that farmhouse/barn is great.

Barn is easy to clear with just a bow/club, the house, well, it's easy for ME now, I've done it enough to know the

zeds hiding places.

Clear first, mine the stuff on the way OUT. (ya live longer that way)

Oh, there is a treasure room in both the house and the barn. (barn has a big weapon bag too)

So yes, very easy to have a cobblestone/cement base before first bloodmoon.

In RWG you never know where the goodies are gonna be (unless you peek at the prefabs file)
