canadianbluebeer Posted May 10, 2019 Share Posted May 10, 2019 Always nice when RNG gives you some good stuff right off the bat. just got a lvl 4 mining helmet on day 1, day 2 got several wrenches, a lvl 3 shotgun, and a level 5 compound bow. yet took all day on day 1 just to find a stupid cooking pot. RNG likes to toy with us. RNG: "here's some good weapons and tools, but oh look, you're out of water and food" ME: "got lots of snowballs, jars, meat and eggs, but no damned way to cook them!" RNG: "giggle" (kept looting, found the pots, made a beeline back to base, got there just after dark, and managed to get my food water taken care of. was in the 50s on the bar.) Back in my day the gunparts were integrated to expand the looting. To give you the feeling of accomplishment when you finally found that last weaponpart. You found weaponparts as often as you find weapons now. So you would have a pistolpart or a shotgunpart and every 15 parts you would find a whole gun, mostly pistols and sometimes others. But within that gun was always a bad part draging it down so finding single parts was always a reward. Now I scrap 9/10 of all my weapons for parts. On day 7 I already have a pistol and a shotgun (4/4 playthroughs) and 2/4 I had an ak and a sniperrifle. 4/4 I had a complete compoundbow and enough steelarrows to go looting. TFPs don't know what they want. They make bases completely invalid with logspikes beeing gone and A.I. beeing way better because they want to make the game harder. They give you 10x the guns because "micromanagement is bad" They make zombies pop out of walls like they actually planned to ambush the player because pois should be harder They remove wellness which actually mattered as it gave stamina and hp, and introduced a near deathpenalty which nobody likes. Lets just face it. A17 is a mess. No way around it. You can like it. It can be a great basis for A18, but A17 itself is the worst alpha since A9 (for me because I started with it). Its uncoordinated, all over the place, broke the game in many aspects, removed core features and replaced it with blandness and performance also suffered. The only good things it brought was graphics, vehicles and some smaller stuff like ragdoll, arrowphysics and some pois make the world nicer. But overall a catastrophe. Morloc Posted May 10, 2019 Share Posted May 10, 2019 I got a few decent drops too, which was surprising given that 25% loot leaves most of the yellow zombie-bags (and just about everything else) completely empty (still gives XP). I know I got an orange shotgun, and ammo.....shotgun ammo! I've found a couple pistols too, and they also came with their appropriate ammo. While I was downloading from Steam, they insisted that I check EVERY toilet I saw cause I was going to need a pistol and ammo asap. First toilet I saw I looted a pistol and 20+ rounds. Is it me or are bird nest in 17.3 giving next to nothing 80% of the time? In 17.2 they were dropping consistently. Now I end up destroying the empties for feathers. I would love for 7DTD to have on regular loot almost every container you find have something. Doesn't mean it has to be something worthwile. To some extent it could be annoying like in Project Zomboid, but on the other hand the most peculiar items would be in very specific POIs, not in common houses. The same could go with loot. Sure you could find a resource deposit (dungeon POIs) hidden in the attic or basement and you could explain this by other survivors gathering the items and dying some time after. Nonetheless, if you only have dungeon POIs around you, it's like you can get stockpiled on everything you need as long as you loot only them (with some luck ofcourse). I had a lot of good loot on my first day as well. cooking pot, grates, tons of ammo, 2 mining helmets, weps. No food, but plenty of water. I got 2 batteries and 2 wheels also. I had a forge and iron tools in A15 and A16 on day 2 at the latest. The level gate for the forge and the production of iron tools is annoying enough already. Fortunately I had a working forge at my trader so that I could produce forged iron to repair the tools I found. As far as the weapons are concerned, they don't play such a big role for me. I even use the bow voluntarily longer than a week because I hate these loud firearms and only use them in an case of emergency. The bow and the crossbow are the ranged weapons of my choice. You are still happy about that sniperpart you found. To be fair i hated shotgunstocks but everything else was awesome to find, even if it gave no immediate reward. Running low on meat, nary a critter to be seen except bunnies. (not chasing those down) Riding back after doing a quest, deer in the road. then a pig. and a wolf. oh look, another pig. Finally got the nerd goggles, and a monkey wrench page. oh, I can do minibikes, iron tools, and whoa! lvl 5 (for 30 min) prep everything and spend that time making the bike, tools. This was on day 5. Have a lvl 5 compound bow, lvl 5 sledge/iron club, iron tools. lvl 4 mining helmet, lvl 3 shotgun and ak. got the weighted head, barbed wire, rad remover mods either found or bought. 3 of the storage pouch mods (one of each lvl) oddly, 2 sets of the tool and die thing have dropped. only found ONE battery in all the wrenched cars, and of course, that went into the bike. granted, I'm messing with trader gen, and have 100 on the seed I'm using. (code posted in another thread) so someone will have the little things I need. First day run is always exciting though, as we have nothing, and there are things we all feel we MUST have. ( a bloody POT!! number one! ) heh, should make a thread for "what the best loot you've found on DAY ONE" and what's the worst day one for loot.
