Lanadon Conners
This is NOT a "bash the RWG" thread. We all know it's broken and being fixed. This is an off the cuff, snarky thread about things you have had dealt to you by the RWG and couldn't prevent your palm hitting your face. I started a brand new 16 Size map and used one of the mentioned seeds to bring it to life. I spawned in the Forest, with a few houses and cars easily within range and had a pistol, 45 rounds and an iron axe within the first 5 minutes. Life was Grand. Walking out of the last house, I had 12 Bottled water, plenty of food, some bandages and I swear I could hear the "Von Trapp Family" singing in the background.. Ok.. time to bang out the Tutorials real quick and find a base. Wham, bam, thank you Maam the stuff's made, time to find that Trader.... and .. ophff.. "Trader- 8.6 k distance". The Trader was EIGHT and A HALF kilometers away? Ugh.. ok.. Well. we can do this.. start walking.. follow the road.. and over the next hill.. Desert.. lots and lots of desert.. well, I got water.. 2k into the desert, heat debuff really starting to suck.. I see .. WASTELAND.. <wimper> After 2 kilometers into the Wasteland, I have a shotgun, a hunting rifle, tons of ammo and some armor to wear .. and 4 Vultures following my every step.. 4 Kilometers to go.. After another Kilometer into the wasteland, I must have missed it, but a nasty dog decided to ninja up my arse and his first bite caused bleeding. 3 Pistol shots to the head and dog was down, apply bandage... Only to have those damned Buzzards dive in like WW2 aircraft attacking an Aircraft Carrier.. Yep.. Bleeding again. Bleeding controlled, Buzzards shot down, food and water at critical levels.. and health below 50% Gun fire drew a lot of attention .. time to haul arse Wait.. !! I see SNOW up ahead.. snow means cold but it also means abundant water and plenty of game to hunt.. and 1.5 K to go to find this damned Trader.. That's when Yogi Bear camp out of nowhere and Bitch slapped my distracted head from my shoulders.. haha one of the Shortest but MOST adventurous and exciting games I have had thus far. Looking down at my corpse and Yogi doing nasty things to it.. all I could think of was.. "WoW.. THAT was a big middle finger". hehe Anyone else had a situation dealt to you that put you to the test but left you walking away nodding your head and saying "well played 7Days.. Well played".. warmer
I think the worst was back when the forge was a gated book, RWG really f'd with me due to how hard it was to upgrade certain things. I think I was on day 12 before I found the forge ahead book. Going through a blood moon without iron tools is BAD! One thing that RWG does really poorly now is the placement of biomes based on elevation ranges and their temps. I have found desert right next to snow. One I roast in, take 20 steps and now I'm freezing. Because of this, I took the RWG files and modded the biomes to be more forgiving and far more realistic in regard to temp and elevation placements. If you are intimidated about modding the files, just save a folder with a copy of them and go for it. It is pretty self explanatory if you have ever looked at code and know basic algebra. AtomicUs5000
For me it was my first A17.0 game. Ran right into a radiation zone that generated in the middle of the map about 100 meters from my spawn point. Because of how bad the stamina was in A17.0, I had no means to run in the opposite direction to get out of it in time. In the early A17 builds, these random rad zones (not to be confused with the typical rad zone edges of the map) were pretty frequent for me. I would end up with at least one in every other map. I have no idea if they still exist since they changed RWG at least twice since then, but I haven't encountered one in a while.
zombie4hire
I have also had my first trader deep in a wasteland I am not at all ready to brave at single-digit levels. I am trying to remember a really bad A17 RWG game, but have not had too many really bad ones. I have had worse in previous alphas, like a hub city with massive cliffs all around it except in one direction.
Lanadon Conners
I had one RWG drop the Rocky Mountains right in the middle of my map, effectively cutting my map in half. I had to nearly go to the edge of the map to get around... BUT.. Once I had a sturdy Iron Shovel with "Gravedigger" mod, an iron Pick with "Bunker Buster" and later an Auger with both mods.. I built my own 5block by 5 Block tunnel straight through, complete with concrete roadway, walls and ceiling supports. Large enough to cruise through at full speed with my 4x4. I was going to add a maintenance room with Generator and string lights inside the tunnel too but I got distracted with something else.

Lanadon Conners
It's the invisible radiation zones for sure. These would be ok "if" we could have a version of the Rad Remover as a Chest armor Mod that "Crackled" louder as we got closer to an Iradiated Zone. I have only ever found 1 Random Rad Zone.. a small one mixed in with a Wasteland I had on a map a while ago. As Immersion I went back and made like 40 Wooden Crosses from Wooden Frames and put a Burn Barrel on the top of each one as a Danger marker about 50 yards apart. Did I have to? Certainly not but it killed an afternoon
ktr
Spawned in the burning forest which was okay. It's great for all those starter materials from easy(er) sources. After snagging a cooking pot (score!) in a burnt out house along with many bottles of murky water, I was feeling pretty good. Couldn't get out of the burning lands on the first day, but no big deal right? I still had environmental protection and perching on the top of a burnt out house gave me clear view of any Ashleys wandering my way. I began day two with a nice stack of water, coffee and canned foods with the optimism. Noon passed and I was still in the burning lands. Night 2 saw me on top of another burnt out building, pondering my life and prospects. But surely, this could not last. Surely, it did not! I founds... desert. A lot of desert. But hey at least the trader was there even though I had no environment protection anymore and had so far managed to find only a sweatshirt, jeans, and.... a puffer coat. But at least I had my handy grass hat and plenty of water still. And vultures. So many vultures. Oh, hey, and that snake hiding behind a rock. But at least a few pieces of meat from it and that chicken I managed to chase down and club to death. I found the edge of the map, turned around and headed back in, only to find more desert, more burning lands and constant overheating. No clothes that really helped and no hope. Eventually, I did find a tiny - very tiny patch of forest that had a few boulders and some trees. To the other side of the patch was... wasteland. Oh joy. Well, since I'd nearly died from overheating more than once and it was day 5 (or 6, IDK, the heatstroke was getting to me.) I figured I'd set out across the wastelands because there had to be some area of habitable forest SOMEWHERE. Only to die on a landmine while running from three dogs. I have erased the name of that map from memory.
Damocles
It's the invisible radiation zones for sure. Thats actually the reason why Ive added an optional biome-change at those borders. So the player can see the NoGo zone earlier. Its not fun to be suddenly taking damage, without knowing where the line is to get out of that spot. I have only ever found 1 Random Rad Zone. Great idea, it would be nice if we had a single slot geiger counter you could just have in your "backpack" and it would click near radiation sources. That would be quite nice for alerting you to radioactive zeds before you stumble upon them. On the random rad zones, of the 5 games of Alpha 17.2 I have played, I have run into them in more than one spot on a couple of seeds. I tend to use my favorite seeds from previous builds to see how they differ, so I just might be unlucky in that regard. Randomly they might be more rare. asmosnuts
Had a map that dropped me straight into waterworld, not a thing in sight anywhere some bug between rwg and firing it up i suspect. Also had the dreaded rad zones from hell on a map that kindly spawned rad zones all over the place. Last map i played had trader 10.5km away through desert, massive wasteland and snow. Did the old soft shoe shuffle across the desert without too much trouble, sodding vultures!. Had a nightmare trek through wasteland, running into every dog, bear and vulture in the vicinity. Finally sighted snow and much needed water and game. Down to no food, 1 water, no bandages and 15 health. Looked around to make sure there was no danger sneaking up on me and breathed a huge sigh of relief 2k to go and easier terrain. I promptly headed for the snow, planning my next move and before i could say "dont tread on a mine" I trod on a mine. Well played indeed!

Weazelsun
The only ♥♥♥♥ you from RWG, was one of the maps the server owner tried out during A17 expermental was half of the map was essentially wasteland. Of course shortly afterward a wipe occured since a new experiemental came out.
Scyris
Ah, the 'forge ahead' days. Around alpha 10-11, no? It was a terrible gate, but it was also cool in a way... Nothing I can think of in the current game compares to the elation of finding that one book and instantly being transported to endgame. I actually learned to survive without it entirely. Loved it when I found it but I could make do just fine without. With a little help from rngesus anyway to give me iron tools and some forged iron to repair it with. Got even easier once traders came in, as I could trade for what I needed if I couldn't find the book. Think my biggest F-u was that RWG game where I went till day 22 without the forge book this was before traders existed as well, not to mention I had wasteland and snow biomes all around me. Wasteland especally sucked back then as it had pretty much instant respawns of anything you killed and the nastiest stuff tended to be in there. Ahh the good old days, when we were mostly at rngesus's mercy.. or hatred.

Cadamier
I already mentioned this in another post sometime ago but... I play with a group of 8 of us and we just started, we're all trying to meet up. I spawn in the desert but to my surprise on the map I see patches of wasteland. As I'm trying to make my way to a smaller group I get dive-bombed by about 6 vultures... I take out a few and then continue. Then I see a couple of dogs and a zed bear... Gotta maneuver around them, then... Low and behold 6 more vultures! Then a couple of dogs join the fray... It was/is my belief that because of the desert & wasteland - that produced the extreme amount of vultures...
Lanadon Conners
So there I was, Hitting parking lots for cars to loot and then dismantle for Engines, Springs and gas when I found one gated lot with 5 lootable vehicles parked on the other side of the wall/gate. I drop a few wooden frames and up and over I go. Click on the first vehicle and OMG, on day 4 I find a tier 4 chainsaw. For me on day 4, that's a huge find as it means I can have plenty of wood for defenses in 3 days time vs the Horde on day 7. While I am patting myself on the back, I am suddenly Stunned and Bleeding before I can "Take" my prize. I scamper away as best as I can to see it's one of those "Skater" punks and he brought a Friend, a Biker slowly plodding towards me. I pull out my bow and start plunking stone arrows into the Skater.. temporarily happy that "Opie the Biker Dude ( SOA ref)" is stuck on the other side of the car and can't get to me yet. One on one, I back up and keep putting arrows into Skater punk until he finally falls.. and turn to start shooting at the other when I realize.. it has been punching my car.. with my beautiful Chainsaw in the trunk.. My first shot hits the car and bounces off.. the next.... Never gets fired because the car suddenly explodes.. leaving me in critical shape and definitely worse off that Biker dude who was next to the car is. I jump up onto my wood frames and over the wall to the gate and with a string of Blue curses.. I start putting arrows into the biker until it looks like a Hedgehog.. and I head back to my meager hideaway.. badly wounded, .. leaving a smoking crater filled with a giant middle finger from the RWG and a Carrot on a stick lesson learned. haha
zootal
It was when A17 came out and I realized how badly RWG had been broken and nerfed. Last week I used the NitroGen map generator being discussed in other threads here and generated a 16k world. My players are still gushing over it, claiming it to be one of the best worlds they have ever seen. TFP might consider hiring this person to fix RWG for them.... warmer
Spawned in yesterday in a deep in a forest between a Cabin and well wouldn't you know it, a trader! Literally 100 blocks between the two. The cabin is my fav type. Flagstone 1st floor, with the wooden stairs on the outside leading up to the wrap arround porch and the ladder accessible rooftop. I thought holy crap, what luck! Sealed off the first floor with flagstone on day one and built a running jump gap for an entrance. Spent the next two days just laying down row after row of wood spike and mining below at night. Day 3 hits and I just can seem to find a reliable water source. There are very little poi around me. Not a single pool to be had for kilometers. No cooking pots in the dozen houses I've raided. I am desperate. Canned food has already made me sick. No snow in site, nor desert for yucca. I use my tried and true scouting method of stacking 100 wood frames on top of each other and have a look. Scanning the horizon I spot a deep canyon on the edge of some wasteland where it meets a forest. 2 or so kilometers of wasteland lies between me and my potential salvation. Maybe there is water there, but I just can't tell due to the angle I'm at. 30 hydration left and it's approaching 7:30pm. If I go now I had better prepare to spend the night. Getting back before walkers are running around will not be an option. Loading up my wood frames, 100 arrows and 5 hunks of charred meat I had out. This is going to be cutting it close. Stepping out of the forest and into the wasteland I spot my man's worst friend. The zombie dog. I notch an arrow and hit him right between the eyes. Turning toward me I realize I had better bring out my club before he's got his jaws around me. Just as I equip my club the dog steps on a land mine and explodes 10' ahead of me. ♥♥♥♥... Land mines! I had completely forgotten about land mines. I almost never venture into the wasteland due to dogs and buzzards. It is a need situation. There is no "wanting" to go for a stroll here. 8:45 pm and I am hardly closer to my goal and now I need to watch for things that are going to blow me up on top of dogs and buzzards. One more scouting look to get my bearing and I'll be off. In the distance, I spot water in the Canyon. My gamble just might pay off. I chug some coffee and gun it for my map marker 1.6km to go. Buzzards begin launching into the air in pairs. I never turn around. I just keep running and scanning the ground for land mines. The sun is fading fast. .4km left and zombie steps on a land mine in the distance as I pick up a cooking pot left on a heap of rubble. What a find! The buzzards squawk. I look behind me. 6 damn birds are on me getting ready to dive. What is this?! This is why I never come here. Up ahead is a blue car in nearly pristine condition sits as the biome begins to change. If I can make it behind the car the birds will only be able to come at me one way. Ok lets do this! Jumping over the car I Iand in a crouch, only to be meeted by a dogs snarl. Where is he? I can't see him? The buzzards squawk and begin to dive. One Two THREE and FOUR! Down four go but at the cost of severe wounds. 12 health and bleeding. I slap my one remaining bandage. The 2 buzzards left are still circling higher out of reach. The forest is less than 200 meters from me at this point. The canyon right up ahead. I make a break for it, the snarl of a dog is in my ears, I spin around while moving towards my goal. Where is he? The buzzard squawk as I spot the dog. The canine lies between me and the canyon. I can't stop with these birds behind me. It looked like there was plenty of water in that canyon... Images of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid flash in my mind. Why the hell not, I'll launch myself off the edge canyon into the water, the dog won't follow me, I'll be able to put some distance between us. Here goes nothing!!! 2 seconds of free fall later I land. In inches of water... The end.
