Managed to play 2 in game days so so far. I'm only playing on medium settings(same as A17) but the world looks gorgeous now. I've died a few times so far. I've had 2 ferals zombies appear on day 2 and got rekt. Died from infection and got food poisoning after eating my first boiled egg. 10/10 would recommend.

It typically takes 7 days to die from infection, but getting hit while infected raises how infected you are so some people die sooner than 7 days. Glad you love it!

Did you try windowed mode yet? Lots of people are suggesting massive fps with that. I've heard its best to run games at your native desktop resolution too, so maybe turn down your windows desktop resolution if its 4k or whatever.

Tried windows mode, didnt help. Running good old 1080p, same as in windows. RX480 8GB with a 4.2Ghz quadcore and 16GB ram. FPS will fluctuate between 20 and ~160 FPS depending how much terrain is on screen. (this is with the low quality preset)

I'm sure it'll get resolved soon enough, and turn out to be some tiny thing that has no logical reasoning behind it. :)

Edit:

Also, people saying they have no issues and people saying they *do* have fps issues is subjective. Some people are happy with 40 FPS after all...

@Doctor3D, what are some of the FPS numbers you're getting?

16gb rM

Gtx 1060 6gb

Ryzen 5 2600

Using a mix of settings mostly high and medium.

Having no proformance issues so far.

Cant find where to craft storage boxes(not chests) though, are they still a thing?

Would be cool if you could get more tint options to really customize those turrets. :)

Post Gold DLC? :)

Dyes should work, easy to mod in more.

you want your gpu usage to be as high as possible. Its the cpu you dont want maxed.

Ideally, with a capped frame rate - you'd want your usage to be under whatever usage is necessary to reach that cap. You don't want anything to be 'as high as possible' unless you're literally running uncapped trying to get the highest frame rate possible.

I was saying that the GPU usage increases when terrain is in the scene - thus the FPS is lower. The CPU usage drops in these cases because at that point I become GPU bound.

Assuming you're not CPU bound, if you're in a scene where the GPU is capable of spitting out 120 FPS for example - but you have your frame rate capped at 60FPS - well, you're only going to use 50% of your GPU power. It will not use more than that, and you wouldn't want it too..that defeats the whole purpose of capping the frame rate for heat, noise, wear, and power-saving.

On the flip side, if you are GPU bound with an uncapped frame rate - and you look up in the air - your frame rate is going to rise dramatically and your GPU usage will max out because it's pumping out frames as fast as possible.

That's not the problem i'm referring to. The GPU is stressed when terrain is in the scene..usage spikes AND the frame time is lower.

When I saw the infection percentage increasing I fell in love with it. Just the though of being infected is scary but knowing it’s going to kill you slowly is truly terrifying. No one wants to die a horrible death like that!

yes but 7d does not utilize 100% gpu ever even when fps is uncapped. I have not tried a18 yet but am about too. normally i only get about 65%ish tops while other games like gtav i can get 100%. This is also at 2k rez.

Yes I'm happy we got time to add the new infection system its so much better than anything we've had in the past.

My GPU is definitely pegged at 100% when looking at terrain/mountains. CPU is unusually low at under 50% when that happens. Which makes sense, but 7days has never had cpu usage so low before. At least not that i can recall.

I'm loving A18!

I'm about 4 hours in, the sun is setting on day 4 in game. I've found several nice level 4 items, including an AK47 and iron pick. Still rocking a stone axe, but hey, rng is random. I have two really nice helmet mods, one for light, and one for water filtration. Too bad my leather hood can only hold one mod at a time. LOL The rage mechanic was a little tricky at first, but after a few fights it's easy to deal with. I'm working a strength/perception build, mostly strength. The iron club is nice so far.

The trader was only about 400m from my spawn area, which was in a forest biome. The trader is on the edge of a town... tons of looting in just the small POIs so far. I've done two quests, the rewards feel right, now. In A17 I felt the quests were a waste of time.

I don't seem to be having the FPS issues some of you are having. I'm getting 80+ FPS both indoors and outside. It doesn't seem to drop when I'm outside looking at hills or whatever. My specs are at the high end, admittedly:

RTX 2080ti (driver 419.67)

Core i7-5930 @ 3.5GHz

32gb system ram

Windows 10

I'm running the game at 2560x1440 144mhz, fullscreen is turned off, graphics settings at Ultra.

EDIT: I forgot to mention the reason I'm running an old nVidia driver. When Borderlands 3 came out I was getting 80+ fps. Then I installed the new version that was "game ready" for BL3 and my FPS dropped to under 15. I rolled back to 419 and fps was back up in the 80s. I don't trust the new nVidia drivers yet.

I see you've changed your profile pic. Looking good. *Thumbs up*

Also, guess who just got a crucible schematic and a bacon and eggs schematic from the same bookcase on day 3? ;)

Thanks that was 3 years ago after I just lost 35 pounds when I first took to heart the diet I'm still using now. I'm working my ass off getting back into shape (much better than then). I peaked in 2018 then got a bunch of injuries but I'm all healed now and every year I want to get in better shape somehow than before.

It feels so rewarding finding schematics! Remember to hit every mailbox, most are duds but I found two books in one once, so they are worth checking for sure.

Well, keep it up! Regarding the picture, I would dare not go near water like that! (Aquaphobia, honestly.) I just might begin hitting up the gym again sometime.

Oh, I certainly will! As a matter of fact, the first mailbox I hit up gave me the Spiked Knuckles schematic, and since I am going a mostly Fortitude (partially Strength) build, that find was absolutely perfect. In addition, the trader just rewarded me with the Iron Knuckles schematic, so I've just completed the set! Now, if only if the trader wasn't 50 blocks above sea level on top of a giant near-vertical plateau. Lol. Going to and fro from the trader is a royal pain to say the least.

Edit: Also, I've learned not to mess with the boars early on. My first death was to a boar within the first five minutes of me spawning in. Lol

Occlusion is off. That was one of the first things i turned off. :) It doesnt make any difference in FPS. NNot in this case anyway.

Like i said, there is 0 FPS difference between ultra and low quality settings when looking at mountains/terrain. That should never be the case.

I was having this same issue when I first joined my friend's RWG game, where settings had no difference because performance indoors was good, but outdoors was tanking hard. It happened when looking at distant terrain specifically just like you're saying. Turns out that madmole was right about it being a RWG generation bug. The distant terrain looked particularly blurry. But after restarting the game once that world was working fine.

Turning Texture Streaming off made it work before restarting too, but after restarting it, it worked fine even with Texture Streaming on and increasing the settings back.

Madmole I was honestly worried about A18. I thought it would be solid, but not amazing. You spoke SO highly of A17, best ever amazeballs etc., but it was just solid, not really amazing. So knowing your hyperbolic style I tried not to get too worked up when you said books were amazeballs, looting was better than ever, best alpha since the big bang, etc.

BUT OMG IT'S AMAZEBALLS BOOKS ARE SO COOL LOOTING IS BETTER THAN EVER!!

Got REKT hard by a forest feral (?!) trying to sneak around on second night. Stealth plays well though so I distracted with rocks, got my bag back, then played cat & mouse for 5 minutes straight with my weak little crossbow, finally avenging myself quite satisfactorily.

One of the first books I found gives you chance to find acid in cars and med piles. OOOOH I could feel the subtle warmth spread down from my neck as a little dopamine hit me. Good lord. The perks are just so interesting with unique little boosts just strong and cool enough to make you feel like you just leveled a tiny bit.

The visuals have improved so much OMG! And SO MANY high quality new models: the first time I saw a soda fountain machine I felt myself grin. So many little additions and "ooh! that's new!" moments are just delightful :tickled_pink:

And I'm so glad I looked through options and turned on the dynamic music. YES! WOW. Absolutely perfect. Not too much, totally fits the theme, feels amazing to hike around to creepy/cool tunes.

I was very excited for the spear but it feels ridiculous. It's just way way way too slow when thrown. If you're going to huck a spear, even as a noob, that thing is going to fly, however inaccurately. But this little granny lob so slow someone could easily just snatch it out of the air if they had decent athleticism: sad. So sad. Even when their heads explode, they feel like they *shouldn't*. It's like when someone shoots a car a couple times in a movie and it explodes in a fireball. Nah. I want their head to explode because I MOTHER FLIPPIN' HURLED a spear through their skull at some impressive fraction of C. First iteration though, so I'm sure it'll only get more badass and feel as VIOLENT as it deserves to feel. That's the best way to put it actually: the throw does not feel violent at all.

But back to how amazing A18 is. My wife played for just an hour with me before having to reluctantly go to work, and she was geeking out hard. It's been very hard to get her to play this game more than casually with me - she'll play here and there for stints but bore of it. Graphics have always been one issue. Upgraded her CPU and got her an even better video card than I have (that's rare!) and she LOVES how it looks. Not only can she turn settings higher but the new textures, models, icons, ore nodes, etc. just blew her away and she was like "OMG OMG I can't believe I have to work! They added so much!"

For what it's worth we were both big fans already, especially me. Now we're just kind of in awe of how good this game continues to get. I have had very little Steam Alpha experience. Bought Starforge and the developers just released and ran while that game was still in Alpha Dog♥♥♥♥.3 if you know what I mean. Bad taste left in mouth, yeah? But The Fun Pimps have given me literally the exact opposite experience. I went from one extreme to the other. You guys are just so awesome and this excellent, very unique game just got a massive upgrade in the amazeballs factor. Bravo.

I wish we could name them, I'd call mine dogmeat lol.

That would be funny, would be cool to name our weapons and items. I can see some hilarity going down in PVP.

You gotta go windows mode THEN lower your resolution. Just going into windows mode isn't gonna help that much.

I was borderline diabetic, high blood pressure and a lot of other crap, all cured from diet and exercise. I get blood work and supplement to improve levels of various things I'm deficient in. Still you don't look 62!

Thanks! I don't feel it most days, but others.. lol!

Same here as well.. I was high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and on 7 meds for them. Lost weight, ate right, and now I onoly take supplements because of the age thing.

On a bright note, I found with medium textures I could bump my res from 1080p to 2k and only loose 4 or 5 fps. That extra res makes up for the texture quality loose, so things look much better.

(for reference again, i7 6700, 15 gb ram, 1060 3gb)

I'll be investing in 2060s though at least, because its about that time to upgrade anyway, and having a better 7 days experience is worth it to us. (two systems, so like $600-$700).

Yep, that was it thank you. I had incorrectly assumed that the update would overwrite them. Thanks again!
