If you want to call it a bug, why post it here?

We have an entire forum section for bug reports.

 

Error reporting for alpha 17 has been closed. So earlier Joel wrote. Error Acceptance for Alpha 18 is not yet open.

 

Yes, I consider this a mistake and asked if it was fixed in Alpha 18. The most suitable place for such a question, given the above, do not you think so? :)

there are a lot of changes that are not on 1st page... the list is humongous and i am willing to say even the full list on a18exp will probably be missing something... its big... oh did i say it was big... the list that is. :)

 

 

 

and yes... spit/vomit does go thru wood/iron bars and you can see it several times on MM's videos during horde nights when his GS is high enough for them. :)

 

 

I wonder what all the changes are but isn't it better to let us experience them first though?

 

I mean we know some main changes but should we explore the game for the secondary ones?

Hell no. No game in there right mind would release an update without patch notes, thats just not smart at all. You have any idea how many bug reports could flood in because a player thinks its a bug when it was just chang/add/taken out? Normally I never say an idea is bad or opinion but that is just...lol :)

 

Edit: You are also forgetting the thousands and thousands of other players who never visit the forums. They have no idea what the changes are...how would they find out come release what the changes are without a full list of patch notes.

I'm gonna mod it so the spear throw does same or less damage than stabbing. Reason? Just watching the videos people keep throwing spears at point blank and instantly retrieving them. Distance is enough advantage for a power strike.

 

I agree, it appears to be broken.

 

Forges could be also broken if mods now only increase speed: Making 20 forges will be a thing again, but will be done offsite of the player base.

oh lol. I knew that couldn't be right I was like wtf! lol :)

 

Note: I've never seen patch notes that include every single tiny little change. That would be a list like a mile long when it comes to these big updates.

I saw MadMoles latest video, and have a few observations and comments.

 

In my opinion the spear in hand should have a little more length, it seems rather short.

 

Also the knife animation when harvesting just looks wrong, I have no idea why that was changed because before it was great already and now it just looks.. I can't describe it.. just not normal 🙄

 

The wrench harvesting animation, also, I saw MadMole got some resources by whacking the radiator. Is that supposed to happen? I loved the old wrench animation and maybe it was just lazy harvesting by smacking it over using the wrench to deconstruct with a turning animation. Does anyone know if you can harvest by whacking or if the animation was indeed changed?

 

The bird sounds when ridinf the bike also seemed off. I'm not expecting rhe doppler effect but when he was riding the bird sounds remained the same constantly. I think they should get louder and quieter giving the impression you are passing them instead of the same sound volume all the time.

 

Maybe not so noticeable on foot, but on a bike it looks lime a cheap overlay just for a forced effect.

 

I also saw some cupboards maintained their integrity but couldn't be looted. Is that a bug or has the block been painted like a cupboard but is just a normal block of some sort? 🤔

Now this is good and healthy constructive criticism. :)

 

You make some good points. Spears typically are on avg 7-9 feet but it would be hard to navigate a building carrying an almost 10 foot spear and unless you are trying to kill a zombie by making it laugh to death, I doubt a spear that long would be effective. would be nice for more ambient sounds in the game as you explained, that would be cool. The cupboards thing is a bug or rotated the wrong way or something along those lines, I forget what MM said but they fixed or are fixing it.

However... not "all" spears are created equal, search internet for "average spear length" (not porn),

I googled it before posting as I do not like to post false info. all kinds of types, lengths, if they were made in the bronze age, what period in history etc. avg size is 7-9 ft. I have no idea what type of spear the game is basing it off of but yeah spears come in all sizes. I was mainly getting my info from oxford university. I'm not a fan of wikipedia.org as that is not a reliable site in my opinion for the most accurate information.

 

EDIT: note I only read up on it for like 5 minutes though so... I do plan on looking all the info up as what little I did read sparked my interest a lot.

but the farther you throw it. the more damage(with a limit of course) and some mods like "back blade" you lose your ability to throw it but instead you flip the spear and the back has a sharp blade that you can slash and can hit at lease 3 zombies"

I have no opinion until I try the spear out in the game. seems fine as is though.

im happy with how the spear plays in a18 with what I have seen I like my range on melee weapons

me also on that.... melee but at a comfortable distance and with a couple points into perk and a mod or 2 pending tier level... jab for eyeballs and sometimes watch the head pop off (so satisfying) :)

 

so for us melee players... find a bat (to replace your wood club), hopefully find a couple mods for it ... you can also craft a t1 stone spear from start if you have the mats. the pimps are looking out for us. :)

Agreed. Its fun to be scared in a house while looting, not to take 40 minutes to clear it.

 

This game is always intriguing to me when it comes to the topic of zombies. It is the only zombie game that I have been a part of where the players and devs are happy to TRIM zombies. It is also my only zombie game that I have played where the world has the least amount of zombies. I struggle to call it a zombie game at times.

 

For comparison, games I have played such as Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, State of Decay, Dead Rising, Dead Island, Project Zomboid, Miscreated, H1Z1 Just Survive ALL have massive amounts of zombies wandering their game worlds. If we focus just on zombie survival games, I remember when they specifically optimized Just Survive, Miscreated and Zomboid so they could specifically handle larger amounts of zombies on screen and those communities were ecstatic at the idea.

 

I just find it odd that the BEST zombie game on the market is actively working towards LOWERING their zombie counts overall.

 

We'd love to have more zombies, but we'd have to throw away digging terrain, destroyable worlds, and all the dynamic emergent fun our game has just for that one thing. Its a lot easier to add more zombies when your meshes are built (like a whole hose plopped down with welded verts, basic collision, pre computed lighting, pre computed navigation mesh, etc. Anyhow, I think its what separates us from the games you mentioned.

Do spears have a longer melee range than lets say the bat?

Technically correct but I doubt anyone is going through 1000 pages of dev log, looking for premature bug reports.

If there are playstyle books can you put them in the traders inventory so it’s not left to chance to get the book you need for your build? If you don’t have luck looting what you want you could always work towards buying it before you get useless books that don’t complement your build.

 

There are books and schematics for sale at traders. I hit every trader I know of on reset day looking for these.
