Mc Draken Posted January 26, 2019 Share Posted January 26, 2019 Good day! McDraken here. I wish to share my ideas, on improveing the game's building system. Altough its working, It has some problems. There are a trillion block shapes in about 5 different materials, all cluttering the crafting list. This makes building from many different pieces a chore. And im not talking about rotateing them into place. While tablesaw is a good approach on first sight, since it reduces the crafting clutter, its damn annoying to always go back to it, to craft some. Well... from the most basic material, wood. But yeah its more realistic. Im suggesting a different approach. QUICK SELECT FOR SHAPES: Theres only one block for each material. Wood frame, awning, cobblestone, brick, etc. Actually the basic cube block. If the player want a different type, holding "R" brings up the usual menu, with one extra icon, a shape selector. This icon brings up a menu, just like painting brush does with paint selection. Selecting the preferred shape on spot, in a quick manner. Also this would highly clear out the crafting menu sparing around 3 hundred blocks This would also make the process of adding additional shapes simplier, even thousands of shapes could be easily handled without clutter. QUICK SELECT FOR ROTATION: Isntead of Advanced mode, there would be a similar quickselect menu with the 24 (am i right?) Angles of blocks. Obviously it would be a little weird, since the horizontal alignation would not follow the player's, but can be solved with a little sign on each icon that shows wich point of the compass the block heads towards. So the lil icon shows its a heads down ramp descending toward south, so the player knows thats what hes looking for or not. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

But (even if not full on topic) please no "Blueprints" The whole Blueprint system in Empyrion destroyed a huge part of the game. Lazy player only drop foreign Blueprints and then they encumber the game is too hard because their ship lost the cockpit and so they need a whole new ship, and/or they encumber that the game is boring (because they never designed anything by their own) If at all, please only raw buildings with only main material blocks like Wood -> Steel Sorry for exagerating (maybe derailing) the topic. But i feel this as important top of this topic here But my meaning is really it would destroy the game Well i would go even further and make many blocks not buildable. You want a chair, loot one in a poi You want a fridge, wrench a complete one in a poi ..... But yes, if we talk about Shape selection and or placing many blocks at once, empyrion is more comfortably. But now that you remind me of that, they just implemented the Table Saw to limit the amount of shapes you can craft "on the fly". Hmm, makes me suspicious. But I do like the ideas. Following Royal's tangent, sorry: Well i would go even further and make many blocks not buildable. You want a chair, loot one in a poi You want a fridge, wrench a complete one in a poi Can you clarify why? I wouldn't mind a pick-up-tool for POI blocks at all (like a wrench, but picking the block instead of the resources), that would be neat. But why limit the decorative building? I wouldn't mind a pick-up-tool for POI blocks at all (like a wrench, but picking the block instead of the resources), that would be neat. But why limit the decorative building? I like the real approach more. You wouldnt craft what you can loot Maybe not by removing, instead make the decorating blocks take a really long time to craft. And if it would cover all the world containers/blocks, then you would actually have a better way to get the current trader-only stuff. Then again, MP servers relying on fast loot respawn settings wouldn't exactly love people snatching the gun safes, I think that's a bannable offense in some servers...
