Frotus
If zombies were running around everywhere (Feral/Radiated/Blood Moon/Night time) outside of a normal daylight setting....... 1) Piano wire up at neck level everywhere near my home 2) Headless zombies laying in piles around the property 3) Headless me laying there if I don't watch where I am going on my Mini-Bike, etc. I am sure some of those nicer POI homes had a piano at one time to salvage
Ranzera
I kinda wish we could have something like the log spikes back. Either completely different model or fix the bugs with log spikes idc. Long lasting and low damage. Preferably something I can put iron spikes on top of, so that I have a high damage tap that gives way to a low damage trap. FileMachete
Hey HungryZombie, wanted to say thanks for the question. Working through a response really helped clarify things for me. "I would really like to be more actively involved in defending during the blood moon hordes. I'd welcome some risk. I don't want traps doing all the work." HungryZombie
The old log spikes were more likely to maim a zed, taking off a leg so they became a crawler, than to just kill them. They had many more hit points, balanced to materials of course, so they were more likely to survive a horde night instead of being destroyed. The ones closest to your walls could be repaired during the horde. Sure you can repair the current spikes but there's a much smaller window to do so due to their lower amount of hitpoints. While it's certainly possible to change the current spikes total hps, and damage output, so that they become similar to the old log spikes, it would seem that TFPs would have done so if they had intended to. So I'm guessing the current wood/iron spikes are acting as intended. As to the playstyle. I'd very much like to be able to melee, from inside a base, in early, mid & late game, without the base build depending on certain AI behavior that faatal has said he is working on. The addition/return of something like the old log spikes _could_ assist with this, in my opinion. Example; turning a runner into a crawler spreads out the zeds. I'm not sure the above is any more useful in explaining what I'm attempting to convey. If not then my apologies, not sure how else to say it Edit: "What was your playstyle it would bring back?" Specifically in a16, it was pole walled bases w a double row of log spikes in front. First day 7 horde would be a 5x5 made of cobblestone & maybe the inner row of log spikes upgraded to scrap iron. There could be some frantic moments trying to lure z's to another area when poles were about to fail, and trying to keep up w repairs to poles & spikes vs. smacking zed's w a club. I find that kind of horde defense engaging. And what I'm hoping will make a return: playstyle wise. Doesn't have to be poles or log spikes, just some magic sauce where I'm doing most of the work, not the spikes. I see what you are saying and I built many a base like that, fighing inside a cage of some sort. I think horde troubles with such a base has less to do with the log spikes being gone as much as with the zombies now focusing on a single block and bypassing half your spikes. Not sure if going back to log spikes is going to change that. If you think about it, while you state you like to melee, what's really going on is the spikes are doing most of the damage and you are just giving out the finishing blows wouldn't you agree? On normal difficulty many people are saying they can get by with a cobblestone base and 6 rows of wood spikes so those kinds of bases are still possible though there are too many variables involved to say how well this still really works. You can still make a kill cage with some adjustments if you want though. Have you seen this guys base? It's pretty amazing I think. I tried a few tests with it in creative mode on early game with just wood spikes and barb wire in the cage without the blade traps and turrets and it worked pretty well on some hordes of zombies I summoned. I was shooting at them and melee'ing / repairing as needed. Turrets and blade traps are the new iron spikes. Let them do most of the work and if you build right you can just finish them off like you used to do. - - - Updated - - - Hey HungryZombie, wanted to say thanks for the question. LuckyStar
I am getting more and more curious. What is a non-cheese base? Don't bother. No matter what you build, there's some elitist who'll tell you it's not the way THEY build so you're having fun wrong and you are cheesing the game. Just build however you like and ignore the elitists. Here's a kitten to make you feel better.

Block request wasn't intended to address it by itself. It's adding 3rd gear back into the gearbox. C/Sh_ould help with AI tweaks by assisting in spreading out zombies. thus damage over time. -- Can't agree w you on just coup de gras. Way to many multiple swing beatdowns while defending. Sure there are some, and in later gamestage in a16 you'd use turrets & blade traps, but the ones that made it through to the walls? I'd guess less than a quarter were single shots. Should mention that later bases had turret/wiring setups that allowed 'flow control', so turn on one turret and let half the horde come in over 6 rows of steel log spikes. -- Those are some good ideas, thanks for the link, but not melee bases at all. -- heh, kill-steal from my own traps yeah, that's about the best it gets right now... (I'm thinking of the commercial where the guy trash talks a pothole... I'm gonna trash talk those iron spikes whenever I see I got some xp next horde night ) -- Indeed.
