Mouse over the locker on the perk and get the answer?

Also, then how do you know what the prereq's are for building the Iron Ax? Needs to be clearer and "hovering" does not work there.

More intuitive than a hover over? Tell that to every professional grade app....

I'm not a computer professional, I am a gamer, so NO that is not intuitive.

Sorry but it's NOT intuitive.

Many players had to be told to mouse over the lock?

It's not colour coded, it doesn't blink, it doesn't shine, there's no tutorial.... nothing.

You either have to learn here in the forums or get lucky.

Sorry but.... there's a right and wrong way to do mouse-overs..... and this is an example of "try again."

I kinda have to agree with Star on this one, I was dumbfounded trying to figure out how many points into INT I needed before I could craft one...nay.. create Iron tools, I think it ended up being something like 6 or 7 int, pretty damn high actually considering you really want to be with iron tools fairly early, that little stone axe is just too cumbersome, and despite constantly looting POI's for working stiffs crates, I never found any iron tools, I had to craft all mine.

Those early perk points are extremely vital in placements and it was kinda hard to plan around that since I just kept throwing points into INT.

Found this thread after doing a search on how a forge would be available.

I haven't played the game in a long time and trying out A17 (day 4) and I haven't got much of a clue as to what spending my points on will best suit the style that I play or make available certain "basics" needed to support that.

Similar thoughts are also felt when I find items that I can't repair.

I do not see a branched type tree or something with colour etc to help or guide me, or at least make me aware of the consequences of making choices.

Maybe it is more obvious to the experienced player, or those who have watched many let's play vids, but neither apply to me.

It kinda makes me apprehensive to continue the game, rather than curious to find out.

Thanks! @Armor9 1300 hours in this game and still hadn't figured that out in alpha 17 yet. About the least intuitive thing I've seen since edible glue.

From the posts in here it seems like a way better investment to just settle near a forge in the early game than throw all the points in there (which is what I've been doing).

Thanks, but again, should make it a little more intuitive. I mean, they DID have 18 months so make it right.

It doesn't get anymore intuitive then that.

What they made is intuitive, you might be asking for idiot proof, which needs to really go out of the way to be that way.

Well as you can see from the posts above, I am not the only one that does not think it is intuitive.

Back on topic, for the forge you need a bellows, but to make a bellows you need nails, but you can't make nails without a forge. Am I correct to assume you need to loot nails to make the bellows or is there another way to make them?

Usually in UI you use a "?" or a "i" when you want to give the user more information. That's intuitive.

I rarely say this. But in this case I think it falls in under the category "It is a Alpha"

Guess the traders may be selling some now?

Otherwise you gotta loot 'em. Same story with the short pipes which can be made in the forge too. The game always starts with looting junk.

Both are very common. Dig through some trash and they'll pop up.

I still haven't figured out what that damn hammer icon means, anyone? Thanks.

Pretty sure that means you can craft it in your inventory, no crafting station needed. It threw me off as well and i've been playing a while. And mousing over the lock wasn't that intuitive. For example clicking on a mod doesn't tell you what it applies to in all instances. I had to click the "description" of some armor mod to find out it only fits on heavy armor. The information about things seems to be inconsistently formatted and in some cases is not included at all.

I've just started playing A17 this week. The perk system is about as clear as mud. I too wondered why I couldn't make a forge until i came in here and read about the secret hover text.

What's even dumber is there's plenty of room to display the requirements right to the left of the lock.
