Vomkat
Is there anyone that can explain how the prefab editor works? For example, there is a blue box floating in the air. This is the 'start point'. However, there is nothing that explains what that is or what significance it has. Why is it floating in the air? Yesterday it was down on the ground, but today its up in the air, what does it mean?

Vomkat
Is there some trick to designate the front of a building, so it aligns with roads?

stallionsden
Yes, as Slaan said in his video, "Startpoint? I don't know what the ♥♥♥♥ that is..." so I'm asking, what is it? There was another thread also not from slaan. Altho slaan has 3 videos I think in his. But the other one shows from the start.. Pretty much can YouTube a17 prefab editor see what comes up. But start point when in dm press z a blue box will appear press z again if you made a prefab. Buttons you use are g ctrl and z and (backspace to get rid of the blue box if you placed wrongly) it's a matter of playing with these til you work out which is which. Then when you have your prefab covered all sides and top hit esc and export prefab tab then put a name in it what ever you like. Or if you want to import a prefab in dm hit z twice then k brings up a little box select import prefab it will import prefab on that position. Like I said the you tube prolly be easier to see. And wasn't trying to be or meaning to be rude was just saying those posts described the editor easier then I could describe it lol. But if you go into game main menu go to the second tab from bottom I think the tools one select prefab editor in there press sec hit help and it describes everything for you also for another learning point. Vomkat
Ok, I asked specific questions. If you aren't going to answer those questions, why respond? Just admit you don't know. I have already searched for answers, that's why I'm asking. 1) what is the start point for? 2) how do you designate the 'front' of a building so it aligns toward a road? Start point is the bottom left of of a poi. So the left corner as you are looking at the prefab. Place the blue box on the spot you want the poi to spawn so place it In line with the road you want it to spawn at.

Place the blue box on the spot you want the poi to spawn so place it In line with the road you want it to spawn at. Well, if it's spawning in random gen, I can't place it in line with a road that hasn't been generated. Are you saying that the start point (blue box) determines the alignment, so it should be placed in the "front left corner"?

Are you saying that the start point (blue box) determines the alignment, so it should be placed in the "front left corner"? You can spawn a poi in random gen by doing as I mentioned in like 3 posts up. Type dm in console press z place blue square where you want press z again then hit k select prefab option and select poi you want spawned. Unless you mean you require the rwgmixer.xml which you simply copy a line in the place you want ie: rural or wilderness or downtown etc and place the prefab you want to spawn inbetween the " " then go into a ran gen game and your prefab will spawn somewhere on the map next to a road. Vomkat
Yes, you are not really understanding the question. Of course I want it to spawn in random gen, as in via rwgmixer.xml, otherwise why would I waste time making a POI? I'm not asking you how to clone it into an existing game, nor am I asking how to edit rwgmixer. It doesn't do any good to answer questions that I'm not asking, you are just making the thread unnecessarily long. I understand a POI will spawn "spawn somewhere on the map next to a road" - the question is how to get it to face the road, rather than facing the opposite direction. There must be a way to designate the 'front' of the POI, and perhaps that is the 'start point', which is why I'm asking about it.
Magoli
open the prefab's own xml-file and insert/edit this line: <property name="RotationToFaceNorth" value="1" /> u can change the value to 0 or 1 or 2 or 3 thats the 4 directions (north,e,w,s) which direction u have to choose depents on where ur prefab's front-side is: if front is pointing to the east than choose value 3 if front is pointing to the west than choose value 1 if front is pointing to the south than choose value 2 if front is pointing to the north than choose value 0 edit: this only works for spawning in RWG !!! (Nave is a totally different way!!!)
Vomkat
Are you saying you can only align prefabs to a single cardinal direction? ie: do all gas stations face the same direction, across the entire map?

And you talk about the blue box etc. That is the in game prefab editor. You mention nothing of the rwgmixer I think your confusing the both. Simply do as mags says go into game then check prefab if its the wrong rotation exit game and try another rotation until your happy with it. - - - Updated - - - Are you saying you can only align prefabs to a single cardinal direction? ie: do all gas stations face the same direction, across the entire map? stallionsden
You can also move a prefab around to the direction you want in the prefab editor itself tho to. When in prefab editor hit esc and a box with 4 tabs opens too right of screen one of those allows you to rotate the prefab to the direction you would like.
