How effective are the Stealth perks?

The description says that you'd be 75% less noticeable and your noises would be 60% more silent. I kinda want to know if the stealth perks would actually allow you to clear a whole POI without waking any zombies up, because that sounds like it could be a possibility.

This still "seems" like it's not working quite right.

Did they take it off the "Known Bugs" list yet?

I haven't checked lately.

Didn't know it had problems in the first place, but this being stable, it should have been fixed.

If that's not the case, it seems like stealth is little to no use currently.

Stealth is the best way imo, with a little bit of practice and the right skills you can sneak through assassinating everything quietly. Just have a smg ready in case you make a mistake which can and does happen.

Amp up your sneak damage skill and the ranged head shot skill as well as that stealth skill, works very well for me.

Yes, and no.

With maxed stealth and light armor (+ the mod that decreases armor noise in each armor slot), you can practically hug sleepers during the day, and literally hug both sleepers and awake zombies while inside a building at night. So long as your detection reads 0, unless you're standing exactly along/where a zombie wants to path to, they won't attack you.

The problem, as you might of ascertained, is damage. Maxed sneak attack damage, maxed headshot damage, fully modded out compound bow with steel arrows will one-shot practically everything with a headshot on default settings. However, both radiated bloated walkers and radiated cops will handily survive -- the latter of which is knocked down to wanting to explode range.

So sure, on default settings, as long as you don't run into either of those when clearing a POI, you can completely do it without waking anything up. Run into either of those, and things become very annoying to do stealthily, since the former paths like a headless chicken after being sneak attacked, and the latter is an imminent threat which regens health too fast to reliably take down with a bow.

On higher settings? You might as well forget about it, I would assume practically everything survives being one-shot at the highest difficulty.

There's also the problem that if your arrow misses for any reason, from clipping a door, corner, or obstacle that has a too-large hitbox, to the inaccuracy range allowing an arrow to just-miss a head, to having to break those idiotic panels with zombies just waiting in closets - you could wake up the entire room.

I've had a time where an arrow impacts right next to a zombie's head, and suddenly it and 5 other zombies in the room all simultaneously stand up alerted - yet hitting a zombie doesn't.

Stealth MIGHT be useful, but the amount of situations that just break it completely are numerous enough that, combined with the blood moon complete ineffectiveness, I don't consider beyond usually hidden strike 1

  • 1 year later...

Just did pure stealth build. All light armor, night vision goggles and ghilie suit and I 1 shot most zombies with compound crossbow and steel bolts. When I dont 1 shot zombies they sometimes still walk right by me in an attempt to find me. I am able to kill zombies in groups of 5 and 6 without waking others. Fun!
