  1. *sigh* "seems like all the fun mods have this compulsion to make the game HARDER. As though more challenges are better. I spawn in, for the first time EVER. and within a minute, get attacked by a huge croc. it follows me allover and soon kills me. great.

I did a little testing in Creative and found if you make a Cross using 16 metal blocks[scrap frames for example, with 320 "max load"] and cover them with a 15x15 platform of catwalks [only 4 weight but 40 max load.] ONE pillar can support all of this weight! if each of the four load bearing joints on the pillar have a load of 320, that's 1280 total. 16x20+ 225x4 ends up being 1220 "load" so there's technically 64 "load" left over, since the center pole doesn't actually count. is this the most efficient design, or most durable? far from it! but it's a lesson in structures. so if all you want is a "patio" of sorts and open real estate is your goal. then what i can tell is using a mixture of the strong metal's weight bearing but offsetting with the nimble cat walk's light weight is a good mix. What brings me to Valmor's Illustrious presence is when I hypothesised that if a "simple arch" bridge of metal frames could span 32 blocks, with some cat walks? i calculated that if I used metal cat walks and then swapped 2 of the metal i could instead use TEN wood. at the midpoint. excanging a distance of 4 for 20. however, I quickly found there's actually a DISTANCE cap in the game. even if I take several of the metal catwalks away I CANNOT exceed the distance that a pure metal arm or "spar" could reach. even though the weight says it should. So i'm wondering where the FEK it says you can't build a static distance from any supported object, and if that can be modified. Because expanding an unsupported "bridge" from 32 to 48 is a pretty neet idea! imagine a sky bridge with pillars almost FIFTY meters apart! zombies wouldn't know what to do! i know a lot of this research doesn't have a lot to do with Valmod gameplay, but ValMar, and the rest of us here, know the .XML's better than even the Devs I'd wager! so if there's info or understanding on that dilemma of build distance from structure I'd get the info from here. And if nothing else, my research into making larger platforms with fewer supports is hopefully apreciated. Oh and for an extra tip on building platforms, using the "poles" in a 2x2 configuration , makes for a very beefy "pillar" that's actually 4 pillars wide, yet thinner than a full block. I like to do that, and space my clusters 4 blocks apart. to make a remarkably sturdy raised platform with excceptionally robust ground support, while still being high flow, which allows zombies to pass between the pillars without getting stuck and knocking them over. [i"m just amazed I've not seen any youtubers or tutorial guys showcase this tactic.] I"ve seen the "dual plate hover platform though...but zombies will still hit that.]

Hey, Valmar, Still playing your mod, pleased as hell you're keeping it rolling. I've noticed that Yucca Fruits still stack to 50 yet all other plants to like 500. Also, Potatos take EONS to craft into seeds for replanting, since fertilized ground requires replanting. [kinda wish I could punch and get yield-1 for the "harvest but not remove" mechanic you introduced. since last I checked punching only ever yields 1 dunno if you can, or want to change the yield so if I'm harvesting grapes on fertilized soil, and the yield is nine [not four, like most crops.] and I spend one to replant....instead I punch and "collect" 8 from the plant. it's either that, or there was a skill that grants XP for planting, harvesting and, or crafting seeds, since a large farm for a MP game takes a bit of time to keep harvesting. Also, I"m watching Z-Nation FFS doing his A16 with a few custom mods, and one thing that strikes me as wierd, is the irradiated zombies have ♥♥♥♥TY loot tables. like...a glowing cop had 2 pieces of wood on him...WTF IS THIS ♥♥♥♥?! Did you alter their loot tables for your mod? if not, might be something to poke at, or deliberately NOT, up to you in the end, but part of me thinks...either make them never drop anything, so you don't try and loot them all and die trying...or make their loot tables worth the risk, is my thinking That's all for now, hope you still appreciate the feedback and suggestions!

moving day rolls around. and is dreaded. Hey, Valmar. did they ♥♥♥♥ up moving tool benches in A16? I tote's remember being able to RECOVER things like mixers, and work benches, but now I'm just scrapping them for parts. is this something you're unable to fix? or maybe rebalance the loot tables to guarantee the drops? [though this could be used to reroll a small engine if you were to do that on a cement mixer.] either way, I don't want to lose small engines every time I want to remodel my base. Which of course leads to an age old problem. if you break a forge, you loose the crucible, anvil and stuff inside it. I wonder if it's possible to make those recoverable, either with the new "backpack dropped" or just fall on the ground. whacha think? In any case, stay classy. and FYI I saw your skin in the random character thingies and decided to rock it. now....i still need to find that fedora of awesome... SPEAKING OF HATS ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ed streaming thought. always one more thing. for some reason the FULL FACE iron helmet allows eyes and face armor, but the STEEL which is a reskin of the scrap, blocks eye slot. is it possible to unblock steel helmet from preventing eyes and face as well? eyes especially cause that's where night vision goggles, and LED visor go. thanks a ton!

Hey, Valmar! I just popped onto my game, and got some great loot out of a supply drop, check this out! http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=755390103 my stats are pretty high, I just maxed them out last night, for quailty joe, and scavenging, but even still, isn't it reasurring to know the mod is doing it's job, making people squee with joy at a purple complete sniper nestled ina big pile of goodies?

Yeah, I realise a lot of my brainstorms aren't gonna be easy or doable.... but if they're never thought up, or pondered, then good ideas won't happen. I'm glad you liked it anyway.

So, I had this strange idea....maybe it requires a work bench...or it's own work bench...but I was thinking. suppose you....find a spiked club, or machete in your travels, but you don't have the recipe book unlocked. sure, you could spend the points on it, but it strikes me as..the most REALISTIC way to learn how to make a thing, is to dismanatle it, examine it's components, and understand how it's made. I mean....a machete is a shaped piece of metal, with a handle using rivets. even a simple "maker could trace templates of the blade, to get the shape, and thickness, and basically replicate from the master. so icould see, in game, if you have a tool or weapon that is unlocked, to have an option in the workbench, to "reverse engineer" in order to gain the recipe. and for balance....I wouldn't mind if the original was destroyed. since rivets can't be put back, and all that. though if it gave me forged iron for "scrap" that'd be pretty fun. it's mostly a fun idea, understanding that with a little work, and skill points, one WILL get all the recipes anyway. but...i could see it as a way of making a lucky break even luckier. - - - Updated - - - Ahhh, sorta dissapointing, but it's all good, I often just shout out ideas, I enjoy the forum for the brainstorming, to help Valmar make his mod better. what would be super cool, is if one of the Devs was in here, listening in, getting ideas for stuff to incorporate into the vanilla game.

I subscribe to the lure of half a dozen forges burning up stone, set below a spike pit of doom. it would be rather interesting if there was a "low impact" and high impact" mode to the forges, like the high impact crafts tons faster, but at a magnified heat map rate. that would be fun. like...if you use a specific fuel, vs wood...I wonder if that's even doable. having different fuels have different "production rates" whacha think, Valmar? wood < charcoal < coal ? each one processes faster, but causes more heat?

I was just pondering the expanded levels, and honestly, there is something much like that in the "health nut" perk. which raises max health up by a max of 50 points. perhaps one could have other such buffs, like "iron skin" or a "faster healing....maybe even a "immunities" like first stage is immune to dysentery, stage two is immune to infection, stage three is immune to bleed out debuff, and they have a prereq of like... level 75, and max level of "healh nut" perk, or something end game like that. perhaps another perk that reduces the temperature sensitivity, so you cool off or heat up slower, based on clothing and environment. though i feel it should be "if hot, cool off faster, if cold heat up faster. rather than everything changes slower. otherwise, if you're already cold it would take LONGER to heat up. instead of overall more resistant to becoming cold. but having a higher level cap isn't a bad thing either, I dunno, though, maybe after lvl 100 you get 2 or 3 skill points instead of five. because after a certain ammount of training, you don't get stronger at the same rate. otherwise older olympic atheletes would trounce the teenaged ones. that's just comparing with realism.

Ahhhh, wow. I not exactly astonished that it would take that much to get it, but it's still dissapointing. it'd be a neet idea, though. and there have been a few instances where a friend on my server took over a prefab house, and had zombies come in and rough up his crib. The problem arises in him being fastidious about things, and bemoaning the tribulations of trying to repair the damage, when half of the crafting recipes are unavailable. like the window curtains, that green wallpaper stuff that has a top middle and bottom. the "rusty metal" pole that is part of the fence outside, or the wedge slopes for the back porch roof. since these are all pretty basic things, I sometimes don't mind just snagging a few from creative inventory, just to fix the gap. but the problem still exhists of an object exhisting, that cannot be replaced. and I would use the crap out of the crowbar, for funsies, and to....reuse resources. cause I'm strange like that. Here's an idea, though. say...there were loyal fans, some of whom had a rough idea of how to fiddle with the configs and .xml's and you gave us a template, and said. "ok, if you want to make the crow bar dismantle a block, here's what you do." and then....the config edits start rolling in. and heck you could even ask somebody to colate them all into a single document, that you could more easily copypasta from. I'm not trying to add tons of work, but it feels like you could get help from your loyal followers.

Hey, I was just thinking, Val, in order to gather resources, an item like a "crowbar" would be fun to dismantle a house, or poi to get THAT block from it. I mean, I would love that EVERY block that exhists and would be CRAFTABLE. but...failing the limits of recipes, all the different random blocks that a POI is made of. instead of crafting them...just...collect them! Like those neet "rebar-exposed-concrete-stump" blocks. just...pop it off with the crowbar. I could see it being OP, and maybe try and balance it, like...low durability, or a long time to harvest stone/cement tier blocks. but...it could be really useful for encouraging people to be CREATIVE without cheating in blocks.

I do believe it requires the beaker in the thing to craft. but it's still a bone and bottle of water, as ingredients. but it's no longer in the camp fire.

Valmod, that wildcard would be great! so you get the 75 points, which would ammount to 25 of those survivor notes. then you could do something like those ammo boxes, that you can select the ammo type you want. I wonder if you could do something similar, that can select other things, too, like weapons, and starter gear. but I rather do like that wildcard custom set. - - - Updated - - - I wasn't even aware the steel spikes were craftable, i thought it was just an upgrade path from wood log spikes up through iron, to steel. though if i could craft them without the expense of wood and iron, that would be spiffy, but I could use confirmation on this.

Hey, Valmar, a friend found a small exploit. crafting one pressure plate costs 3 scrap iron, but breaking it seems to recover 7 scrap iron.

Extra utilities on Minecraft has a trashcan. single inventory slot. anything that touches it is instagone. it's like a safe alternative to a lava pit. I've...accidentally junked things I DIDN'T want to junk.
