I have ideas on how i'm gonna resolve it myself.

I just need to do some tweaks to my mod. Getting there.

I know the change is a pain in the butt, but I think it does position us to be much closer to actual workshop support than we ever have been, and that should be pretty exciting to all the players and modders alike. Every alpha, we take a step forward that's a bit scary, but it is forward.

Imagine all modlets available in a central place, rather than spread out across multiple websites, forum posts, launchers, etc. It feels like we are getting close to that.

  2. I am not concerned with this change. There's a few ways to solve it, Sylven already posted a good solution. I think you can even do a --userdatafolder right from the command line, rather than having a separate xml config. As for the ModLauncher, it will only require a minor change; most users won't even notice.

It does improve things for certain modded players. The ModLauncher copies the game for each overhaul you are installing. However, the new way allows one game install with many mods running in it, saving a lot of disk space. I may even do a small open source app to stream line that, so the concern about the ModLauncher or its dev disappears completely is greatly reduced.

The ModLauncher will likely keep its one copy per mod going forward. Some people really like to keep older versions of the game.

The ModLauncher was always just a gap solution for workshop. Nothing has changed with that stance, nor is it going away.

He's a bit ahead of you and has cleaned everything up (after backing up our game) and is doing a reinstall. He figures that all the trying to move it around got it messed up somewhere. Hopefully it will work.

By the way - he wanted me to pass on to you that he really enjoys reading all the little comments that show while it's installing (it currently says "I'm going to walk the dog"). He gets tickled by reading them while he waits, and said good for you for adding those in. :)

Let me know how he makes out! And I'm glad he appreciates them :)

It's hard to tell what's selected just because of the way the installer looks. He just tried both, and they are both coming up empty. So it doesn't appear to be pointing toward where the save files are. How do we get it to point to the right folder, and go there consistently?

At first, hubby tried to install everything to the D drive, because that's where he puts all his game-related stuff. But it installed on the C drive anyway, and the Installed Overhauls section wasn't even showing. So then he reinstalled to the C drive since he thought that might have caused an issue, and so then the Installed Overhauls section showed up.

I'm not sure if that means anything, but thought I'd throw it out there just in case. The main thing is getting it to point to the right folder. As mentioned before, the first time we played it ran fine. The second time we played I used the Add existing install button to get it to point to the right folder and then we could play again. Didn't know there was any reason/need to select Manual Install or Installed Overhauls at all (I have the old launcher on my computer, so I'm not having the same experience with getting it to run). Once the Add existing install was pointing to the right place, he just hit the Play button at the top middle of the screen and that was it. It worked. But now it's not.

He can clickon the Gear Cog on the side to change where the Mods are installed at, if he wanted to put everything on D:. Once changed, he'll have to restart the Mod Launcher for it to take effect.

Maybe that's the first thing he should do, then re-install the Mod and see if the problem persists. He can delete the C:\7D2D folder to clean it all up.

I just did. Subject line is "zip file as requested"

    Thank you.

In the Mod Launcher, I see there's a section for the MANUAL INSTALL and INSTALLED OVERHAULS. Are we consistently picking the same one to run? I wonder if the ModLauncher is getting confused. Try using just the INSTALLED OVERHAULS one consistently.

  6. 2 minutes ago, VagabondClown said:

Yes. The only way we've found to tell it what folder to point to is the "Add Existing Install" button, so once we get it pointed to the right place we click the Play button at the top and start the game from there.

Hmm... If the mod launcher is running, can you close it down? Then, in the ModLauncher's folder, where the modLauncher.exe is at, can you grab the logs.zip and add them to your post? I'll take a look.

I see that this has been mentioned before, but I didn't see an update or a fix. My husband and I play a game that's saved on his computer. He recently had to reformat his computer, and has since installed the new version of the launcher. We got it up and running and played a while and all was well. The next day, he loaded up the game and the save files were gone. Well, not gone. But the launcher wasn't pointing to them anymore. We finally found it and got all that sorted out, and we were able to play again. Today we wanted to play again, and the same thing happened. He chooses to continue game, and the game list is empty. Each and every time we play, it seems we have to point to our save files all over again.

It doesn't keep his player profile either, so each time we go in he has to create a new one.

What in the world is going on with this? How do we get the launcher to point to the same place every time? I'm sure there's something we're missing. I just can't figure out what it is. Please help.

Are you launching through the mod launcher each time?

Nevermind, it continued, I don't remember it taking so long on original install.

    Hello,

"On downloading and deploying mod..." stage I'm getting

    IOException: ...........\TempMods\mod is not empty

It is not freezing but never moves past this.

    Thank you

I pushed a fix for the IO Exception. I'll try to do some testing on the speed of the copy. It could be slightly slower in some ways. I'm working on ways to make the copy faster, ironically, but it might come at the expensive of a full copy.

Seems to be struggling with that file,as if another process has it open.

This is the new mod launcher I was talking about: https://github.com/SphereII/7D2DModLauncher/archive/refs/heads/Windows-Installer.zip   It' a complete replacement to your current one, and compatible.

    Good day Sphereii

There might be an issue with the launcher and A20 ... This has happened twice now with 2 different mods ... Darkness Falls and Zombiedayz. I get an error and it will go to this screen ...... Zombiedayz did complete ... but could not get DF to finish after 20 minutes, so I exited out and cleaned file.

Take Care and Be Safe ... the Old Gamer .. 😌

That screen is the Hail Mary attempt. It means the other way failed too many times. Looks like you might be having issues with Azure-based mods.

Have you tried to see if the new mod launcher has the same issue for you?

Ohh I think I can see the issue.

Over in player-prev I found these lines. Well pastebin is blocked for whatever reason in Turkey so Turkish people probably can't open the launcher at all. As this is an issue that is on my end I will resort to manually installing mods again. Sorry for bothering you and thank you for your time though! :)

Here are the Player.log files: https://filetransfer.io/data-package/rW9r7IWy#link

I can reduce it to a single attempt. I think only one mod is on pastebin; the other ones should load up.

It was a couple days ago but I just redownloaded and reextracted it today. I tried giving it admin permissions, disabling avast anti virus and such but it just gets stuck at checking for updates. The anti virus did have a false positive but I created an exception rule so it shouldn't be bothering it. I have no idea what to do. Also the launcher does eventually load after 10-15 minutes but honestly I don't have the patience to wait that long each time. If you need anything like my pc specs or such let me know.

    Anyway just incase:

    Windows 10

    AMD Ryzen n5 3600

    b450 TOMAHAWK MAX

    NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1070

    16 GB ram

Also I recently installed 7 days to die freshly. (Don't think that matters for when launching the launcher though.)

Can you send me a copy of the Mod Launcher's Player.log?

Hello the mod launcher is allways stuck at "checking for updates..." when I first open the launcher. It goes on for way too long. Perhaps 5-10 minutes. Why is that?

(Modlauncher is downloaded from the official website so it should be latest version)

When did you download from? If it was older than a week, try deleting and downloading fresh from http://7d2dmodlauncher.org/

There was a problem with the older installer not working for some people.

Okay, something weird is going on.  I was playing fine yesterday, and today when I go to start the game...my saves are gone and it wants me to pick a new profile.

I tried going directly to the folder and starting from there, rather than the mod launcher, and my save was there...at the start of day 1.

I tried restoring one of the backups, since the folder for the world in the "Saves" folder was empty...and still nothing.

The thing is, in saves, there are 2 folders that are "The Fun Pimps" and "The_Fun_Pimps".  The one with the underscores has the save files in it (well, actually the folders for the world, but there weren't any files in it.)  When I copied the save file over to "The Fun Pimps" without the underscores, it didn't ask me to select a profile, but the save game isn't there.

I switched to the new launcher yesterday (I ended up having to reinstall the mods, but that wasn't really an issue.)  But I lost all my time from yesterday, apparently, and I don't really want to spend another day playing only to have my save files disappear again.  Did I screw something up?  If so...any idea what?

Something on my end, I think. Let me look into it.

I removed and added it again to see what it was. It was nothing like yours. It is: C:users\pc\AppData\Microsoft\Installer\E6F02C81-1D5B

Sorry to be a pain. This stuff is a little over my head. So try not to get frustrated with my incompetence

There were a lot more numbers and letters that I couldnt see also. Dont know if that matters

No worries about being a pain.

Let's remove that link, and when you go to add a new one, browse to the path I posted above. There should be an executable there. Add that.

Im having trouble with the launcher. Ive downloaded 2 mods(warzuk and WoW) and neither one will let me use a controller. only mouse and keyboard. I cant even use controller on vanilla Steam version. If i play through steam app, full controller use. In A19 mod launcher i used controller no problem. I updated the launcher and problem occurred. So i uninstalled it and reinstalled it but same problem. Is there anything i can do to get controller working??? I've loved the launcher cause im not savvy with modding stuff and its let me play mods easy as a button click. I have been trying to fix it but to no avail and much frustration. Appreciate any help anyone can provide. Thanks

    Sorry for the frustration!

The easiest thing is to add the mod launcher to Steam as a non-Steam game. Then launcher the mod launcher through steam like any other game. This will give you the overlay, plus controller support

Is there any way to fix the SQL database error like asked before in the threat?

TLDR: When you open up the mod launcher, it gives you the SQL database error and after a while opens up the mod launcher anyways.

    -Hels

Ps. Well seems to have fixed itself out of the blue. Not getting the error anymore, still would like to know what causes it :)

When the mod launcher opens, it downloads this database, and opens it. Sometimes when that fails, or something bad happens, the mod launcher will close and keep this file locked. Sometimes it's the anti-virus software scanning it, and keeps it locked.

    Normally a reboot clears it.
