    Bug Description:

7 Days has begun to continuously crash since April 4, 2024. First crash log recorded at 5:10PM. This became a repeat occurrence at seemingly random intervals. Anywhere from crashing on startup, to crashing at the opening logos, the world not initializing, crashing while looting, while roaming, fighting, turning around, etc.

Intriguingly, when 7 Days had begun crashing, Discord had also begun repeatedly crashing. Not sure if that had anything to do with 7 Days though.

As a result of crashes occurring every time I played 7 Days since April 4th, I took several steps to try and prevent the crashes from happening. Listed in order – assume a crash after every step taken:

    1.       Playing w/ EAC on as a MP Client. MP Host did not have EAC enabled. First crash occurrence with game immediately disappearing.

    2.       Restarted my computer

    3.       Verified game file integrity

    4.       Began launching without EAC. Unity Errors pop up now before the game crashes.

    5.       Uninstalled, then reinstalled 7 Days.

    6.       Disabled exclusive fullscreen

    7.       Disabled SS Reflections, then SSAO, Motion Blur, Sun Shafts

    8.       Turned off reflection quality, then shadows, then occlusion

    9.       Played in single player. Still crashing.

    10.   Updated my windows OS

    11.   Updated my Nvidia drivers

    12.   Updated network drivers

    13.   Used Display Driver Uninstaller to completely uninstall my drivers in Safe Mode.

    14.   Played solo for about an hour and a half without crashes. Played as MP Client directly after and crashed within 20 minutes. Then again 10 minutes later.

Detailed steps to reproduce the bug: No real steps to consider. The closest to reproducing the crash is trying to skip the intro movie showing the Pimps logo.

Actual result: Despite taking all precautions, I kept crashing at random intervals

Expected result: Hoped the crashes would stop after uninstalling my drivers. Did not seem to be a rendering issue?

    Follow-Up Post:

I attempted to try repairing or uninstalling EAC to see if that would change anything, but no matter what I did, the EAC Executable wouldn't run. After having more issues with Windows 11 in general, I decided to reset my PC with a fresh install. Made backups for later, but everything on my drive has been wiped.

Unfortunately I am still getting crashes even on a PC with nothing else installed.

I got my PC about 6 months ago, so I have to imagine that that was the right amount of time for my Processor to pretty much burn itself out from having no limit to its wattage/power. The BIOS I have also disables undervoltage/underclocking, so it's always gonna be this needlessly intense.

At this point it's possible that even if Intel does come out with a fix, my computer processor is already broken. I didn't mention it,

Those temps would seem alarming in traditional computing, but that is pretty standard fare for Intel's latest flagship. I have a system with a 12th-gen and it goes to 95C when idling.  Intel has decided to design chips to function completely backwards from known safe standards, and the introduction of the E-Cores with no real governing architecture in place for when they get used makes things even worse.

Basically, your CPU is designed to ramp the performance up to hit the temperature target Intel sets, (which for yours is around 97-100C), then it limits the clock rate to adjust for the band. I've tried compensating with custom clock scenarios that are triggered based on what programs are running, upgrading from an Evo 212 to a full 360 water cooler. None of it matters. And damn if every third time I open a large excel spreadsheet, it would get stuck on an E-Core and run like @%$#.  Ended up disabling the E-Cores, but then you still end up needing the performance, but the system is now underclocking it automatically to manage the temperature target.  I just stuck that system on light-load running small game servers, and just ordered the AMD equipment to replace it. Start the build tomorrow.

And then to add insult to injury, there is an issue with the latest top-end chipsets from Intel that Jugg gave you a link to.

I've been pretty deep in hardware for a few decades. When the 10th-gen chips dropped Intel started showing their colors. Much like Nvidia did when they dropped the 30-series. As a result, my rigs are now all AMD. My main gaming setup is a 3900X with a 6800XT. I'm replacing that 12th-gen Intel brick with a 5600X because it was a good deal and well suited for running a few test servers on. My next rig will either be a 7800X or maybe the 8000-series equivalent depending on what my financial situation is at the time, and what kinds of deals I can come up with. Not that anything is really wrong with the 3900X, but I do some pretty heavy computing, and it is starting to show its age.

Now that was a lot of talking, and sorry if I dragged off a bit. One thing I did not see in your troubleshooting steps was full exclusion of the client and save folders from security software.  I cover this in the Support FAQ thread, and maybe it won't fix the issue. But then again, maybe the crashes are a result of some access the client needs being blocked inappropriately.

By your log these are the folders you need to add to the exclusion lists.

Moving this around since this seems like it's Intel's fault here. Thanks for the info Sylen.

If you do need further help with this, do open up a post in General Support and feel free to copy/paste or link this report there. Or respond here, either way that's easiest for you (you may get more coverage from users with this CPU in General Support though). Hopefully, Intel gets squared away on this as well as some Unity updates that will come with A22 will help this out.

    Big update on my issues.

After speaking with 5 Dell Technicians across 6 hours, I can confirm that my issue was a hardware one and not a software one. My computer had to have its Hard Drive/SSD and Processor replaced entirely. Now everything on 7 Days works without issue.

At this point my only real issues are making the game run smoothly. I noticed that in some of my multiplayer games, I seem to lag and jump forward a few feet every few seconds. Lowering the video settings to their lowest made everything smooth again, before the 7th Night lagged everything to hell. That's something for a different thread though, I'm sure.

I appreciate the support given to me in this thread, otherwise I probably wouldn't have noticed my computer problems until it was too late to back my files up or something worse.
